Top to Bottom: A Detailed Kitchen Cleaning Checklist
1. Cabinets and Countertops
Start by wiping down your cabinets and countertops with an all-purpose cleaner or a mixture of warm water and dish soap. Pay special attention to areas around the sink, stove, and appliances where grease and grime tend to build up. For tough stains, use a mixture of baking soda and water, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse.
2. Appliances
Clean your appliances, both inside and out, to ensure they're functioning optimally and looking their best.
- Stove and Oven: For the stove, use a degreaser or a paste of baking soda and water to tackle burnt-on food. For the oven, use a self-cleaning function if available, or apply a mixture of baking soda and water, let it sit overnight, then scrub and wipe clean.
- Refrigerator: Empty the contents, wipe down shelves and drawers with warm soapy water, and use a disinfectant to clean the interior. Don't forget to clean the coils on the back for optimal performance.
- Dishwasher: Run a cycle with a dishwasher cleaner, then wipe down the interior and exterior with a damp cloth.
- Microwave: Place a bowl of water with a slice of lemon in the microwave, run on high for 3 minutes, then wipe down the interior with a damp cloth.
3. Sink
Clean your sink with a mixture of baking soda and water, or use a commercial sink cleaner. For stainless steel sinks, use a stainless steel cleaner to maintain the finish. Don't forget to clean the drain and disposal with a mixture of vinegar and water or a citrus-based cleaner.
4. Floors
Sweep or vacuum the floor to remove debris, then mop using a floor cleaner appropriate for your flooring type. For tough stains, use a mixture of vinegar and water or a commercial floor cleaner.
5. Windows and Doors
Clean windows and doors, including frames and hardware, with a glass cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and water. For tough grime, use a scrub brush or an old toothbrush.
6. Trash Cans
Empty and clean trash cans with warm soapy water or a disinfectant. For tough odors, use a mixture of baking soda and water, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse.
7. Walls and Backsplashes
Wipe down walls and backsplashes with a damp cloth or sponge using an all-purpose cleaner or a mixture of warm water and dish soap. For tough stains, use a scrub brush or an old toothbrush.
