Understanding DW Home Wooden Wick Candles
DW Home's wooden wick candles are a unique blend of craftsmanship and functionality. The wooden wick not only provides a soothing, crackling flame but also helps to distribute the scent more evenly throughout your kitchen. However, like any candle, they require a bit of care to maintain a clean and safe environment.
Preparation: Setting the Stage for a Clean Burn
Before you light your wooden wick candle, ensure your kitchen is ready. Here are some steps to prepare:
- Remove any flammable items from the vicinity of the candle.
- Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface, like a candle holder or a tile.
- Trim the wooden wick to about 1/4 inch before each lighting. This ensures an even burn and reduces soot.
Lighting and Extinguishing: The Art of Control
Lighting and extinguishing your wooden wick candle correctly is key to maintaining a clean kitchen.
Lighting
Use a long match or a long-reach lighter to light the candle. Hold the flame to the tip of the wooden wick until it ignites. Once lit, the wick will crackle and produce a steady flame.
Extinguishing
To extinguish the candle, gently blow out the flame or use a candle snuffer. Avoid using water or covering the candle, as this can cause the wick to smoke and produce soot.
Cleaning: Maintaining a Spotless Kitchen
Regular cleaning is key to keeping your kitchen clean while enjoying your wooden wick candle. Here are some tips:
Wipe Away Drips
After extinguishing the candle, wipe away any melted wax drips with a damp cloth. This prevents wax from building up and creating a mess.
Dust Regularly
Dust your kitchen surfaces regularly to remove any candle soot. A soft, dry cloth or a microfiber duster works best.
Ventilation
Ensure your kitchen is well-ventilated when the candle is burning. This helps to disperse the smoke and prevent the buildup of soot.
Safety First: Preventing Kitchen Fires
While wooden wick candles are designed for safety, it's always important to take precautions to prevent fires:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles away from drafts, vents, and fans.
- Extinguish candles when you leave the room or go to sleep.
By following these guidelines, you can enjoy the warm glow and inviting scents of DW Home's wooden wick candles while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.
