Dragon Ball Super at it again...

Crunchyroll is in DIRE STRAITS right now with all the traffic from Dragon Ball Super fans... I thought after the "1-hour special" mess they'd be prepared this time... guess I was wrong...

Premium member here, brought all snacks cause I wanted to watch Citrus, return of DBS, Ancient magus, now all go to waste on this beautiful evening when the site is down

level 2

I ordered Pizza and I was gonna watch DBS and One Piece... super disappointed right now :(

bro I feel your pain...

level 3

I like to wake up, make a coffee, and then enjoy it watching DBS. Not today.

level 2
Original Poster9 points · 7 months ago

did the same.

level 1

Really a slap in the face paying for premium and having to wait to watch the episode.

level 2

Makes me want to pirate again...

level 3

Really its times like these were I kinda sorta get why people go to other avenues to watch anime.

I mean here I am, paying a for a service, and its been consistently not working the same time nearly every week.

level 3
Original Poster13 points · 7 months ago

it's a shame, really, I'm from Brazil where taxes make everything freakin' expensive, so pirating is almost impossible to avoid (sometimes it really is, some sites don't have services here), but I make a point not to pirate anything related to Dragonball and Crunchyroll is pretty much the only way I can do that... they're not helping it though...

Crunchyroll [servers] (https://i.imgur.com/5qPhdgH.gif) after a new DBS ep lol

level 4
Original Poster3 points · 7 months ago

this might've been the other time around, I think this time it's completetly blown up to pieces, it's down for the count.

level 5

Surprised there's more people trying to watch this one than the hour special.

level 6

Because there hasn't been a new ep for two weeks and Toei been promoting this ep a lot. Also the art and animation on this ep looks clean!

level 2

Ya I agree and this is the reason why I cancelled my subscription...

level 2

Maybe the server runs off intel processors

level 1
15 points · 7 months ago

They Need to adjust their Servers torwards high traffic.

level 2

You'd think they'd have done that, considering how popular they are

level 3

but that would be the smart thing to do...

level 2

It’s so frustrating, some dickhead executive probably refuses to pay for the extra bandwidth if they’re only going to need it for a few hours a week

level 3

companies like amazon and google provide temporary servers now for high bandwith moments. you can literally make contracts to have servers available for your site for only a few hours at a time, there is literally no excuse anymore

level 2

Maybe they have Intel inside

level 1

WHERE THE FUCK IS MY DRAGON BALL SUPER???

level 1
14 points · 7 months ago

its getting old... every week is almost the same, as soon as DBS is released you cant watch it, its soooo slow...

sometimes the pirate version gets out before you are able to watch it on Cruncyroll... and guess what? their servers are not that slow...

level 1

Fuck I was rewatching Konosuba and now CR doesn't load.

level 2

I bought a dozen bananas to re-watch Aho-Girl. Tried CR for ten minutes, gave up and went sailing with my Spanish cat, was watching Aho-Girl in 1080p before I was done with the first banana.

Fuck you Crunchyroll. I'm just going to cancel, pirate, and then buy official releases with the money I save on the subscription to the error screen in the Xbox app.

level 1

They're killing me smh... I just want some Goku

level 2
Original Poster8 points · 7 months ago · edited 7 months ago

yep. been waiting two long weeks to watch this episode...

level 1

Watch on daisuki.net. Free legal Service and Works perfectly Fine on 1080p

level 2

That website never loads the player for me, why is that?

level 3

Ya I just get a blackscreen when i go onto daisuki... I even turned off my adblocker and still go it #CrunchyrollGetYoShitTogether

level 4

just turn on flash

level 5

Got it to work using daisuki and holy fuck what a good episode of dragonball super. The animation was on par or better than some of their movies.

level 4

i get the same problem on chrome but it works fine on firefox. chrome's been shitty lately.

level 5

Ya I used Chrome and I don't have firefox installed and was too lazy to install it and we all know never to use IE .. I ended up watching it on youtube when someone uploaded the episode with subs

level 2

I'm from Brazil, unfortunately it doesn't work here...

thx

level 1

This along with several other things I have paid for that aren't working are making me so fucking mad I don't know what to do with myself. God fucking damn it.

level 1

Also I think Cardcaptor Sakura could be causing some traffic problems too.

level 1

There goes my popcorn, I was in the mood to watch anime today and preparing some snacks but guess what? CR is down.

level 1

Ubisoft servers are down, can't play Rainbow 6...Crunchy Roll servers are fucked, can't watch super. Man, tonight blows.

level 2

You should do crack. It will make for a fantastic weekend.

level 1

Ubsubbed after the last time this happened. Now I just Google "Db super episode ___" ... Said that free sites work better than a paid service.

level 1

Yeah I'm done with CR, no use in paying for a service that offers no benefits to me compared to piracy

level 1

Useless piece of fucking shit Crunchyroll. HOW DOES IT STILL FUCKING CRASH WHEN YOU HAVE PAID SUBSCRIBERS!!!!???!?!?!?!?

EVERY TIME!!!!!!

Seriously are you running this site from a fucking basement?

level 1

Is 122 even up yet? Its already 45 minutes late

level 2

The site's just destroyed right now.

level 2

says it is, but it's not on the dbs library. So I think they just haven't updated that yet. If anyone has a direct link you would be the best.

I don't think it is.

level 1

Man it must be pretty bad, this is the first time I got an error saying that there is no webpage when I clicked on dragon ball super, why have collectively hakaied Crunchyroll good join everyone!

level 1

I’m watching it on VRV. After 2 hours it finally loads and there’s no subs. :)

level 1

I'm using this. It didn't load the first time but when I clicked on DMVideo it worked.

level 2

This is slow just like crunchyroll but it works, but you can pause this and let it load!

level 3

Also use ublock origin. Apparently there's a lot of ads otherwise.

level 4

Le sigh

level 2
Original Poster1 point · 7 months ago

had to do it and this link is literally better than crunchyroll, the player is better and all. wow.

level 1
3 points · 7 months ago

They are really dumb, geez!

Right now on /r/dbz theres a guy that uploaded a 720p full episode with eng subs...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbmmSwBHMZ0&t=1s

level 2

Those are auto generated, terrible subs.

level 3

Still better than what Crunchyroll has given us so far.

level 4

How

level 5

because you can actually watch that one, you cant watch a http error 500 :P

level 6

oh, specifically with this episode? I mean, yeah, even a paper printout of Vegeta and Jiren would be better than nothing.

level 2
5 points · 7 months ago

not really subbed.

level 1

System overload obviously, I work on IT for another company and this happens when there's a lot of traffic. I'm a premium user and since I understand how the servers get hammered by hundreds of users I'm not as angry as many people are, I actually expected this to happen today. I'm pretty sure the folks over CR are probably backing up their servers and rebooting their system. as CR grows you can expect the servers to improve in time. As for right now the only thing you can do is to be patient.

level 2
15 points · 7 months ago

actually im a web developer and high traffics can be solved by scaling up your server, pretty easy to do, and there are even auto scale services on some servers solutions... The problem here is the money, CR dont want to scale their servers for a single simulcast, and this is happening a lot on DBS simulcasts

level 3

That is true, but lets not forget scaling has a risk hardware failure causing bigger outage if they scale up, The problem lies that Dragon Ball Super tends to kill the site when there is an hour long special or a week hiatus. Its sad to see people's night ruin over this, but it will eventually happen and it wont be the last time it happens even if they scale up. It is what it is.

level 4

This is an on going issue for a good year that happens almost every weekend. By this point it's completely unacceptable it keeps happening every week

level 2
Original Poster13 points · 7 months ago · edited 7 months ago

"this happens" will never be an excuse for a paid service. would you ever be able to get away with "this happens" if you didn't have any money to pay your monthly subscription or would you be immediately graded down?

level 3

Totally agree

level 3

Hold on, just because you're paying it doesn't mean everything will be working perfectly fine all the time. Do you think CR doesn't care? this is affecting them financially right now the more down time, the worse it is for them and for the end user. but these things happen even on companies bigger than CR who offer similar services. I'm being sympathetic with CR because, from personal experience know how frustrating it is when a server goes down and you have countless of people yelling at you on a TAC line trying to pinpoint the problem/resolving the issue.

level 4

Seeing as this happens almost every weekend and has been happening for over a year is unacceptable. If they did care they would have made sure they had corrected this major issue that keeps happening. Right now they know they have your money so they have accepted that their site will crash every week

level 4

I mean, it was excusable for the first few weeks, but to happen consistently for months and even over a year at this point...

It's understandable for people to become frustrated with it.

level 2
7 points · 7 months ago · edited 7 months ago

See, the problem with this logic is that it has been happening for a little over a year now, at the same time almost every week. No additional web servers to handle load, no scaling up their existing cloud infrastructure, nothing. To make matters worse, they continually refuse to acknowledge the problem when it does happen. Heck, even a Twitter post that mentions that they are having technical issues at the moment would be a step in the right direction. Downtime and issues happen, all of us in IS/IT know this. What isn't alright is the lack of communication and to continually ignore the problem the way they do. Same rationality that lets them not use HTTPS or HTML5 on the videos I suppose.

level 3

I agree they could communicate better, guess they are learning since they did tweet about it https://twitter.com/Crunchyroll/status/949832586641027073

sometimes companies want to keep things quiet and not be transparent for public relations issues (they don't want to look bad) which eventually leads to tons of frustration from the user side.

anyway, Crunchyroll is back up

level 4
6 points · 7 months ago · edited 7 months ago

It's not back up fully, the part of the cluster running the DBS simulcast is still hosed. The Twitter posting is recent though and I'm glad to see it. Before this year, they wouldn't even acknowledge the downtime when it occurred. It's not normal in any company or organization to leave customers/users completely in the dark without any kind of communication or expectations about when the application or service will be restored, though. Transparency is one thing, but when it's a subscription based service, you would like to think they would put a little more effort into remediation so it doesn't keep happening.

level 5

yeah its down again.

the company I work for tends to leave costumers/users in the dark I have gotten in big arguments with my management because they don't want to tell the users of the current issues because its bad publicity. Its so frustrating. Best CR can do now is better PR with twitter and say there is an issue and scale up servers because this will not be the last time the servers will go down.

LatinAmerians and Brazilians LOVE CardCaptor Sakura. That's why the servers went down today. It was simply too much to handle taking in count DBS.

level 2
Original Poster2 points · 7 months ago

I'm not sure how accurate a statement that is, sir... I'm brazilian and I'm still waiting for DBS, couldn't give less of a fuck about Sakura...

level 3

I like both, but it is actually Super's fault.
