A GNOME Shell Extension that provides 7 Custom Accent Colors for versions 43-46. The selected Accent Color can be applied to GTK4/GTK3 apps and the Gnome Shell. For a pinch more personalisation of Ubuntu 24.10 check out Auto Accent Colour, a new GNOME Shell extension that changes the system accent colour based on your current desktop wallpaper.

Accent colours are a headline feature in GNOME 47, although not new to Ubuntu users since Ubuntu added its own approach to accent colours back in 2022. This is a little project that I've been working on to improve my programming skills. The project involves changing the accent color of your desktop in Gnome Shell.

How it works To change the accent color, we take the Gnome Shell theme from this repository, modify the scss file to change the accent color, and then install the modified theme. Automatically set the GNOME accent colour based on the user's background. Note: GNOME Settings sometimes has an issue of it 'resetting' the accent colour when the Appearance page is open and the accent colour is changed externally.

Even though I don't have a solid answer, I do have a recommendation and it's called Auto Accent Colour. It's a free and open-source GNOME Shell extension that automatically changes the system accent color based on the current desktop wallpaper's colors. In short, it offers two main things: a bit of customization power, and a bit more convenience.

Since this was something some people have been requesting for a long time, I wanted to share with you the good news: there is a new extension that allows to change the accent colour of Gnome. It colours consistently both the shell (Extension User Themes needed to change the theme in Tweaks) and all the other apps. Simple and easy to use.

For me it works fine, but the usual disclaimers apply. An extension called "Accent Icons", aka Accent Directories, can do the job in GNOME and so far supports version 47. The extension automatically install Adwaita icons in different colors into user's.local/share/icons directory.

Then, it automatically switch the icon theme according to which accent color you selected in GNOME Settings. GNOME extension to automatically change the desktop accent colour based on the user's wallpaper. - Releases Wartybix/GNOME.
