is the new craze !

But it more than a passing craze - it is the tip of a very big iceberg.   This new meme is an indicator that real semantics is emerging on the Internet.  Why is that ?   Why is folksonomy working where the controlled ontologies of the w3c's  Semantic Web are floundering  ?   Simple, controlled ontologies are a top down legislation of what is,  and what is not.  Folksonomy is people creating meaning from the bottom up by their intentional actions.   The former is well suited to philosophers and librarians.  The latter is how we actually communicate.  It taps into the semiotics that started when we crawled out of the slime.   Now just which do you think is going to win?

We don't need no stinking domain names !

Well of course we do need them, but we dont want them to get in the way of real language.   When you learn a language, we do not  learn  the domain name of each word in fear that otherwise it will have multiple meanings.   No !   We naturally disambuite each word in the context of its usage.   Well we can do the same thing with our online concepts.   There are two strings involved:  (1) a unique string identifying the context, and (2) a unique string identifying the concept or word.  Where we have both strings present, then we have a sufficiently precise identification for the purposes of communication.

On the other hand, with a UTI, you have the protocol and domain name, as the prefix to any concept.  Thess form a mechanically precice identification.  Howevr this mechanical precision comes at too high a price.  It organizes our  concepts into spaces such that we need to know both the space and the concept.  Each space being too small for real language to emerge.  So by analogy
we are back in the BBS days of the 70's and 80' when there was no cooperation between ISPs .... no cooperation between different computers.   .. well the internet fixed that .... now it is time for the cooperation to bubble up the protocol stack ..... server enterprises must realize that when they cooperate the pie becoms bigger than if they try to lock users into  their own enterprise

by being precise that then you have a particular concept (resource) requested from the server.   Problem is that real contexts are not truly identified by protocol+domain.name ... no they trancend those domain names which actually identify some enterprise.  Well our concepts are not locked within these entities.

...its like back in the BBS days of the 70s 80s .... no cooperation between ISPs .... no cooperation between different computers .. well the internet fixed that .... now it is time for the cooperation to bubble up the protocol stack ..... server enterprises must realize that when they cooperate the pie becoms bigger than if they try to lock users into  their own enterprise

... the default communication is throwing a message in a bottle and hopeing someone will pick up on it ...
... the way to tune in and make it work is to get people into the same context

... see my point is that what militates against subjective meaning and the tower of bable is just the idea of sharing context
..... and you do that by interacting ....

.... sure everyon that just wanders into a context is not going to necessarily "get it" .... but if they stay and interact, they almost *must*  "get it" ... unless they are just faking it

.... and the rss item flows once into the interaction space and causes whatever ripples it causes
... the long tail is all about finding needls in haystacks ... thats what it is all about
... its like comming into existance hrer ... still lots of work to do .... for example people need to realize that the context is what we are after and not some particualr domain dominant service ... and then the context servers need to start sharing context feeds
