He will address a divided nation from the U.S. Capitol steps—still an active crime scene in a four-count federal indictment against him for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election and subvert lawful votes. The cases will be dropped. Trump will never be brought to book.
Having smashed the Midwest Blue Wall and swept the Southwest with big increases in the Hispanic vote, Trump is within striking distance of winning the popular vote. Stripped of agency, autonomy, and reproductive rights, women will become wards of the state and subject to the laws of coverture. Trump's MAGA movement will be rebranded as America's new multi-racial coalition. His white nationalist movement with an \"affirmative action program\" will gleefully smear Democrats as the party of racist and sexist identity politics.
Appeals will emanate from liberal as well as conservative newsrooms for Democrats to cease and desist labeling Trump a fascist and a Nazi for the sake of national unity. Democrats will be compliant. New Black Nationalists regarded Trump at best as a proto-fascist: a wannabee. For all the mass death, atrocities, and ethnic cleansing the Nazis visited on Communists, Gypsies, and Jews, they did build things. Trump and his lieutenants couldn't build a wall, but they were well-schooled in the dark arts of fleecing their base for financial contributions with promises to do so.
For the past four years, New Black Nationalists have said that if Donald Trump is reelected, he will set America on the path of establishing an authoritarian white nationalist oligarchy. Our view has not changed. It begins on January 20, 2025.
The period ahead is likely to be profoundly disorienting for the Black Commons. Black millennials and Black Lives Matter activists built a leaderless decentralized movement to avoid what they claimed was the 1960s error of relying on the single Black Messiah leadership model. They castigated \"Narrow\" Black Nationalists for being exclusionary, sexist, and divisive sectarian ideologues that splintered the movement. But today, the Black Commons are like a rudderless craft tossed from bow to stern in turbulent, uncharted waters. There is no consensus leader that can move minds and bodies on the Black Street: we are a leaderless lot at a time when we desperately need dynamic leadership.
Come what may in the days ahead, we trust the lesson the Black Commons take away from the 2024 elections is that we must rely on our own independent efforts, grassroots organizations, initiatives, and creativity. The 2024 election is a case study of how Black Democrat elites squandered political power and control of the party--a project that took a half-century to build.
Black Democrats are the largest and most influential voting bloc in the party. Among the Black Democrat elites, the Obamas are the party elders. Jamie Hairston is the National Committee Chairman; Hakim Jeffries is the House Minority Leader; Former House Whip James (Cut the Deal) Clyburn is the Democrats' backroom fixer-in-chief; the Congressional Black Caucus has 60 members; and Kamala Harris is the vice president. What did they do with all this power?
Since November 2022, New Black Nationalists pleaded with grassroots Black Democrats to dump Biden and draft a new national ticket because the Congressional Black Caucus and elite Black Dems were too weak to challenge Biden. Joe has been in Washington for a half-century. He was too old, arrogant, and uninspiring. His son, Beau, was charged with narcotics and gun charges.
But Black elite Dems clung to Biden like a molded wet blanket, even when voters in poll after poll said he was not mentally capable of governing another four years. What the f--- were they thinking?
When Biden self-immolated in his debate with Trump, not a single Black Dem elite called for him to step down. Not one! Why? Because they cut a side deal with Biden that they wouldn't seek his ouster if he dropped out of the race, endorsed Kamala, and turned over the campaign funds in exchange for their silence. They gave him a chance to ride out the storm. It didn't work.
Black elite Dems were forced to put Biden out to pasture only after \"Power Nana,\" Rep. Nancy Pelosi, intervened and told them Joe had to go. That left Kamala Harris in the lurch with 107 days to organize a presidential campaign.
We warned Black Dems in 2022 that without a presidential nominee from the Midwest leading the ticket, they faced an uphill battle.
To illustrate our point about Xavier Bacerra being the vice-presidential nominee, Hispanic Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego is beating Republican Kari Lake by 1.5 points. percent margin in Arizona's Senate race, although Trump won Arizona by a 6.2 percent margin. Hypothetically speaking, what might have happened if Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer or former Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan were the Democratic presidential nominee? What we know is that Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin beat Republican challenger Mike Rogers, Wisconsin Democrat Sen. Tammy Baldwin defeated Rep. Eric Hovde, and Nevada Democrat Jackie Rosen edged out Rep. Sam Brown in races that were all decided by less than 1% of the total vote. In Pennsylvania, Democrat Sen. Bob Casey loss to Republican challenger Dave McCormick by 0.6 percent of the total vote.
Is it reasonable to assume that with a Whitmer or Ryan at the top of the ticket with Becerra as the vice-presidential nominee, Democrats might have fared better or even won the presidency?
That said, in May 2023, we raised the Kamala Question directly by asking,
\"Could Black Democrats be satisfied with effectively controlling the party agenda without having to be its public face? In one sense it's a moot question. If Black Democrats want VP Kamala Harris on the national ticket, they can continue to support the Biden-Harris team.
For the sake of argument, however, what if Biden had to withdraw from the race because of a serious illness? Would the majority of Black Democrats throw their support behind VP Kamala Harris, even if national polls showed she was a weak national candidate?\"
We summarized the campaign in one sentence. “The 2024 presidential race comes down to this: Can the white educated women’s vote for Democrats offset the decline in the Black, Hispanic, and youth vote? It did not.
That said, there were no guarantees or magic bullets to win the election. But Black elite Democrats utterly failed to lead. They were feckless, lacked imagination, had no contingency plan, and no long-term vision for the future. Cornel West did no better. He joined three different third parties as their presidential candidate before finally deciding to run as an independent.
To be clear, New Black Nationalists are not trying to save capitalism, Democrats, or America's corporately managed democracy from itself. American Empire is self-destructing, and Trump is burning down its foundational institutions. As a purveyor of mass chaos, he is accelerating America's downward spiral toward an existential crisis that will collapse the government.
Our interests are fighting for the welfare of the Black Commons and its future. Entering coalitions with various and sundry single issue movements and ethnic groups is nice, but no one is going to fight our battles for us. Ultimately, the Black Commons take the bullets for all the other left/liberal interest groups that habitually hang on our coattails.
Because New Black Nationalists view Donald Trump’s authoritarian white nationalist movement as an existential threat to the Black Commons, our responsibility as a thought center is to provide the best advice and analysis to Black communities to derail his American Apartheid project.
But we get it. Who is going to listen to some fringe Black Nationalists at the Vesey Republic? What do they know? Nevertheless, it wasn't us that got it wrong, nor were we late to the banquet with our analysis and recommendations for consideration. The Black press was largely asleep at the wheel, with the exception of the Amsterdam News.
The Black press will also be complicit in obfuscating Black Democrat leaders’ failures in the post-election. They, too, will pin the blame on Hispanics and Biden. They are easy targets. But Biden did what most arrogant white men in power do: he refused to listen to the public telling him it was time to take up gardening. He allowed his ego and quest to conjure a legacy cloud his judgement.
Elite Black Democrat leaders have no excuse. If you are the power that rescued Biden’s pathetic 2020 campaign after Rep. James Clyburn’s endorsement before the South Carolina primary, you have the power and responsibility to take him down. Black Democrats had the power to put a Hispanic on the national ticket. After Barack Obama served as president for eight years and Kamala Harris served as vice president for four years, Black Democrat elites didn’t have the foresight to share power.
Worse still, Black MSNBC analysts: Basil Smikle, Cornel Belcher, Michael Steele, Juanita Toliver, Mara Gay and anchors Joy Reid and Symone Sanders prattled on and on about what Biden had to do to win until it was too late.
Now that Kamala Harris has suffered a grievous defeat, all the Black talking heads are engaging in post-election autopsies so we can get it right in the 2028 elections. They don't get it. By the time 2028 rolls around, if Trump has his way, there won't be anything remotely resembling free and fair elections.
When NBN talks about the Black Commons exercising independence, the Black women who immediately organized the phone conference the day Biden stepped down to raise a record amount of money for Kamala Harris in 24 hours didn't wait for the Democrat Party. They didn't ask for permission. They got busy and got it done. Their example unleashed a torrent of 'For Kamela' groups that organized on their own and activated their networks. Had they not taken independent action Kamela's campaign would have been in far worse shape.
The time will come sooner than most people think when the Black Commons will have the opportunity to seize the initiative once more--but not for America, or the Democrats. We will do so for ourselves. America is one crisis away from an existential reckoning. When that happens, we are confident a section of the Black Commons is going to opt for breaking away to form its own republic--even if it's only an independent city-state that rebels and refuses to relinquish its liberated enclave.
Over the last decade, Donald Trump has convinced more than half of all white voters that their race and way of life are threatened by Global South immigrants and Blacks. This cohort of whites has bought into fear, anger, and internalized the notion of the enemy within.
Thus, the MAGA-Verse has developed a consensus view that America must become a state of exception where the rule of law can be suspended; where violence as a means of achieving political goals is legitimate; where the constitution can be ignored; where encampments for undesirables can be created outside the boundaries of law, and detainees can be held for indeterminate periods of time.
Trump and the Republican Party's American Apartheid project has made landfall, set their ships ablaze, and marched inland bearing the banner of white nationalism. They are part of the Global North movement from Russia to France, regulating mass immigration flows overrunning their Kingdoms of Ethnography with draconian measures. They declare what ethnicities are disposable and require cleansing from the homeland. They are militarizing borders with checkpoints, electronic surveillance is ubiquitous, and they are re-constituting the machinery of government as an organization for death in Ukraine, Gaza, and Lebanon.
In the days to come, the Black Commons must develop a new politics of resistance out of choice and necessity. It must be a politics of organic resistance that is independent of the Democrat Party. It must be a politics of resistance with no desire to return to the status quo ante, but to move beyond it.
