It's bad enough that he uses about a dozen words to explain what he should have rendered 'everlasting' or 'eternal.' If you want a quick way to analyze&nbsp;this 'work' - look at John 17.3 shown below.&nbsp; There are <strong>66 words</strong> used to render the&nbsp;<em>18 </em>original&nbsp;Greek&nbsp; words.&nbsp; That works out to more than 4 English words for each Greek. Here's how other works fare here;<strong> JMNT</strong> exceeds even the <strong>AMPC</strong>:</div><div><br></div><ol><li>ESV: 20</li><li>HCSB: 21</li><li>NJB: 19</li><li>NIV: 20</li><li>NASB: 21</li><li>MLV 2021: 23</li><li>LSB: 21</li><li>ASV: 23</li><li>NWTSY: 21</li><li>AMPC: 43</li></ol><div><br></div><div>To put this in perspective: One of our favorite translations is the New World Translation Study Edition [<strong>NWTSY</strong>], which has many footnotes and Study Notes; the footnotes, images and references made for&nbsp;Matthew 5 <em>alone</em> total over 200.&nbsp; That actually undercounts the number of references because in some footnotes one footnote has multiple scriptural references; some have six.&nbsp; Another translation we refer often to is the <strong>NET</strong>; it has some 60,000 footnotes for 31,000 verses; much of the value in this translation can be found in the footnotes. So that helps to demonstrate that we like footnotes, are very happy&nbsp;with footnotes, study notes and marginal references; we want more to be true. But these works, as is true of most translations, feature this information somewhere other than the main text.&nbsp; What the <strong>JMNT</strong> does, by forcing them into the main text, is to obscure the meaning of the verse. To which we wonder, why? It has the effect of diluting the Word of God with meandering options from the translator, and we again ask, Why?&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The <span class=\"theme-text-color-4-2\"><strong>JMNT does not have our approval</strong></span> due to:<br></div><ul><li>&nbsp;The <strong>overwhelming amount of words</strong> that it uses to convey the Greek, most of which are extraneouos.&nbsp;&nbsp;The effect of so many words is to obscure the original meaning and so confuse the reader. It is tedious to focus just on the bold words and ignore the rest.&nbsp;And:<br></li><li>The <strong>rank inaccuracy</strong> of the translation.&nbsp; It includes what are editorial comments in the main text - for example, 1 Co 13.7 in part reads: \"<em>or, since “all” can also be neuter. . . \"&nbsp;</em>That should be no more than a comment in a footnote, not part of the main text. And:</li><li>Its <strong>use of Yahweh as another name of Jesus Christ</strong>, though the format and wordiness of the work makes it difficult at at times to understand if that is what the translator means to say.&nbsp; For example:<ul><li>Jas_1:1 reads:&nbsp; <em><strong>Jacob </strong>(or: James) <strong>a slave belonging to God and to [the] Lord, Jesus Christ</strong> (or: a slave pertaining to God, even in fact, really, to [the] Lord and Owner [or, perhaps: = Yahweh], Jesus Christ), <strong>to the twelve tribes </strong>(or: sprouts and branches which sprang forth) <strong>who are to be constantly rejoicing within the scattering</strong> (or: which are within the midst of the dispersion [= the planting], \"To constant joy and gladness!\").&nbsp;</em><br></li><li>Here a parsing of just the verse's highlighted words:<em> Jacob&nbsp;a slave belonging to God and to [the] Lord, Jesus Christ&nbsp;to the twelve tribes&nbsp;who are to be constantly rejoicing within the scattering</em><ul><li>That would bring this into alignment with most translations.&nbsp;</li></ul></li><li>The way the translation appears we can't make up our minds if&nbsp;he is asserting that Yahweh is a name for Jesus or it's just more fluff because&nbsp;reading of the entire verse would make this&nbsp;<em>'perhaps: = Yahweh, Jesus Christ.'&nbsp;</em><br><ul><li><em>​Perhaps? This appears to equate Jesus with Yahweh which we find <strong>simultaneously ridiculous and blasphemous<sup>2</sup>&nbsp;</strong></em><br></li><li>This is another illustration of the weakness of this work. Less is more is very obviously not a belief of the translator.</li></ul></li><li>Mark 13.20 is also ambiguous:&nbsp;<em>\"<strong>And now – except [the] Lord</strong> [= Christ or Yahweh] <strong>cuts short </strong>(maims; curtails; lops off; discounts) <strong>the days – all flesh (</strong>= people) <strong>will not likely continue being kept safe or rescued. However, because of the chosen ones, whom He Himself picked out, He cuts short</strong> (curtails) the days.</em><ul><li><em>​</em>His parenthetical thought is senseless - is this a reference to Christ or to his Father, Yahweh?&nbsp; Christ or Yahweh?<br></li></ul></li></ul></li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Use of the Divine Name</strong>: Unexpectedly the JMNT has the Divine Name some 326 times in the NT [this is an NT only translation]. But this is not enough for us to recommend this translation.</div><div><br></div><div>Check verses for comparison, with formatting as it is appears in e-Sword:</div><div><br></div><div>Acts 20.28:&nbsp;\"<strong>Continue holding focused toward and taking attentive care – to and for yourselves, as well as for all the little flock among whom the Set-apart Breath-effect Itself</strong> (or: the Holy Spirit Himself) <strong>set you folks [as] ones who look around over people for their welfare and oversee situations</strong> – <strong>to be continuously</strong> (or: habitually) <strong>acting as shepherds of God's</strong> [other MSS: {the} Lord's {= Christ's or Yahweh's}] <strong>called-out community which He built as a surrounding for Himself </strong>(or: made to encompass Himself), <strong>through</strong> (or: by means of) <strong>His own blood.</strong>&nbsp;</div><ul><li><em>Set apart Breath-effect</em>? The Greek here is Strong's G4151&nbsp;<span class=\"theme-text-color-2-2\"><span style=\"font-size:18px;\">πνευμα </span></span><em><span class=\"theme-text-color-2-4\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">pneuma, </span></span></em><span class=\"theme-text-color-2-4\"><span style=\"font-size:14px;\">defined by Strong's as&nbsp;<em>From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Compare G5590.&nbsp; Total KJV occurrences: 385,&nbsp; </em>There is nothing in that definition to indicate why JMNT adds 'Set-apart' and this is exegesis masquerading as translation. What does 'Set-apart' mean anyway?</span></span></li></ul><div><br></div><div>Ro 1.16:&nbsp; \"<strong>For you see, I am not in the habit of being ashamed of</strong> (= I am proud of and thrilled about) <strong>the Good News</strong> (message of goodness, ease and well-being), for it continues being (or: is) <strong>God’s power</strong> (ability; capacity) <strong>[leading] into deliverance</strong> (being rescued; salvation; health and wholeness; restoration to the original state and condition) – <strong>in everyone</strong> (for everyone; to everyone) c<strong>ontinuously having faith and trusting</strong> (or: believing and relying upon [it]): <strong>for </strong>(to; in) [the] <strong>Jew first, also for</strong> (to; in) <strong>[the] Greek</strong> (or: Hellenist; = non-Jew) –</div><ul><li><em></em>There is no basis in the Greek for 'not in the habit of being;'&nbsp; the Greek is typically translated as 'I am not ashamed of'&nbsp;</li><li>Nor is there any translational reason for 'being rescued; health and wholeness;' these are all fluff&nbsp;</li><li><em>Deliverance</em>&nbsp;is here explained as <em>'</em><strong><em>restoration to the original state and condition</em></strong>'?&nbsp; Note that there is nothing in the Greek that would lead a careful and accurate translator to render&nbsp;this verse with those words.&nbsp; We have access to over 50+ translations and no other translation adds these words or thoughts. The most often equivalent word is salvation, but none have even a&nbsp; hint of 'restoration to the original state and condition.'<sup>1</sup>&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Original state and condition</em> of what? We find this translation <strong>one of the few that we recommend avoiding;&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;we suggest you stay far away from this work. A free pdf is available for download but we recommend skipping it.&nbsp; Why even look at a verse that is very likely to be misleading, inaccurate and nearly impossible to follow?&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li><em>Message of goodness, ease and well-being</em>&nbsp;is so far from the Greek that one has to say What? 'Good News' is appropriate because it is God's promise of peace and life, but well-being? As we maintain in this review, his comments belong in footnotes or even better in a Commentary, anywhere but in the main text.&nbsp;<br></li></ul><div><br></div><div><span style=\"font-size:18px;\">For the reasons listed here, <span class=\"theme-text-color-4-2\"><strong>we recommend avoiding this translation</strong></span>.&nbsp; It is excessively wordy, inaccurate and not to be trusted.&nbsp; We haven't yet awarded a&nbsp;<em><span class=\"theme-text-color-4-2\"><strong>This is the worst translation we've come across</strong></span>&nbsp;</em>prize yet but this translation is tempting us.</span></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><sup>1</sup> Among the translations reviewed for this point: The Modern Reader's Bible by Moulton, The Translator's NT, A Translator's Translation, Lattimore, Schonfield, Barnstone, New Berkeley, Tom Wright's New Testament for Everyone, Lamsa, Beck, J.C. Wand, ESV, HCSB, NLT, NIV, NET, Godbey, Anderson, Weymouth, Moffat, CSB, Darby, Coverdale, Emphatic Diaglott, Douay, ERV, NWTSY, ALT, CB Williams, YLT, Wuest, Worrell,&nbsp;TNIV, TCNT, RSV, Rotherham, REB 89, Riverside, Phillips, Noyes, NJB, NASB, NRSV, MLV 2020 and others besides these 40+.&nbsp; A universal thought in these, as in all other legitimate translations, is that the Good News is God's power for<strong> </strong><em>Salvation</em><strong>.</strong> Never in any other translation is there a thought or even a hint of 'restoration to the original state' etc. That thought is nowhere in the Greek and as such belongs, at best, in a marginal note or in an Appendix. And we add, what exactly is the 'original state?' Where is the scriptural basis for adding this to Rom 1.16?<br></div><div><br></div><div><sup>2</sup> An editorial staff note: Our staff has grown weary of reviewing this work.&nbsp; This translation, as we note above, is possibly the worst translation we have come across.
