The Prodigal explores the theme of faith under pressure-what happens when those who once believed turn away, only to find themselves tested by life's unpredictable turns.

The Prodigal is a compelling play centered around a young man, MICHAEL Richardson who embodies the modern definition of success. At work, he is the go-to employee, always ready to take on challenges and deliver results. As an investor, he thrives on seeking out opportunities, constantly pushing himself to shine and rise above the rest. However, beneath his polished exterior lies a troubled past.

In his early life, a significant event drove him away from his faith and the church, prompting him to pursue a life focused on wealth and stability. His Christian mother, Allison Cunningham and grandmother Dorothy, serves as his anchor, gently reminding him of the dangers of forgetting the true source of his blessings. Allison urges him to humbly acknowledge the role of faith in his journey, but the unresolved pain from his past makes him resentful and resistant to the beliefs he once held dear.

Adding depth and wisdom to the story is Deacon Whilly, a father figure who offers guidance and life lessons. While he dispenses nuggets of  wisdom to MICHAEL, his true focus is on winning the heart of Mother Dorothy, hoping for a second chance at love after a lifetime of widowhood.

The Prodigal explores the theme of faith under pressure—what happens when those who once believed turn away, only to find themselves tested by life’s unpredictable turns. It is a story of unresolved trauma, humility, redemption, and the enduring power of faith, even for those who refuse to embrace it until life leaves them with no other choice.
