The emphasis of this study will be to take lessons from this ancient and well-known story and discuss together how to apply them to our lives today.

During the first half of the study, from now until Christmas, some of what we will discover is...

• how Moses’ mother from an underprivileged position gave her son a sense of privilege that could not be taken away from him;
  
  
• how Moses had to learn humility for 40 years before stepping into the calling God prepared for him, and the woman who joined him on this adventure even after 40 years of marriage;
  
  
• what Moses learned about holy ground and living in the presence of God; how life in an unfair society can make people unable to hear and accept God’s word (and what to do about it); and
  
  
• how Pharaoh’s hardened heart can become ours in a world (and sometimes a church) focused too much on efficiency and results.

As we begin our journey together as priest and people, I believe it will be beneficial to give God our undivided attention as we listen to his word with open minds and open hearts.
