Here, we explore the art of Christmas table decorations with a unique Maltese touch, combining tradition, culture, and a dash of Mediterranean flair.

Embracing Local Traditions

Malta's Christmas table decorations are deeply rooted in its rich history and Catholic heritage. The crib, or 'presepju', takes center stage, depicting the Nativity scene with intricate detail. Traditional Maltese cribs often feature local landmarks and characters, adding a unique touch to this classic Christmas symbol.

Crib Ideas for Your Table

• Create a miniature version of the iconic Mosta Dome or the ancient megalithic temples for your crib.
• Include traditional Maltese folk characters like the 'karozza tal-isfel' (upside-down carriage) and the 'għannejja' (shepherds).
• Use natural materials like wood, clay, and stone to craft your crib figures, echoing Malta's rural roots.

Colorful Table Settings

Malta's vibrant culture translates into bold and colorful Christmas table settings. Rich hues of red, green, and gold dominate, reminiscent of the festive season. Layer textures and patterns to create a visually stunning tablescape that reflects the island's Mediterranean spirit.

Illuminating the Table

Candles and fairy lights are essential elements in Maltese Christmas table decorations, casting a warm and inviting glow. They also symbolize the star that guided the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem.
