We are booked in 2 cabins across from each other with 1 adult and teenager (under 18) per cabin as per booking rules. Once on on board the kids will be in 1 cabin and us in the other but we want to have a spare key card for each cabin. We heard this was easier than reassigning the seapass cards.
Yes, you can get extra keys (cards) for your cabin. The suite concierge can make them, saving you a trip to guest services. On RCL they let non suite guests access to suite benefits?
The keys are conveniently labeled "Extra Key" on the front and they do not have the bar code on the back required for getting on/off the ship. They are also not accepted for payment. We always get extra keys to access the kids room (if directly across the hall) or to swap people when we book one adult / one kid per room (if the room is farther and requires an adult).
You can definately get extra room keys with no charging priviledges. We do this all the time. Also can have anybody with you check in with your Diamond Status.
The extra key is blank and for room access only. I highly suggest a lanyard to help keep track of the sea pass card. But apart from letting you into your room, many key cards have an additional function: Activating the power once you're inside.
It's for this reason that you should ask for a spare copy from your hotel, regardless of whether you have a companion or not. The FP- machines may have been reprogrammed by then and Disney will be over the "no KTTW card for you" phase. Long story short, can I just ask for an extra room key and get it, no questions asked?
