My dash lights are dim by the time my gauge lights are at an appropriate brightness. So my idea was to take the headlight dimmer switch out of my old beater - and wire it inline with the power lead and use it as a variable resistor tucked under the dash. Well I just hooked it up and it doesn't dim the lights.

The gauges in my old starcraft all ran off one hot wire, it ran from gage to gauge. I put a simple on off switch in that circuit to turn them off while running. If you have that wire I don't see why you couldn't put a pot in to dim them some.

I would like to dim the instrument cluster a bit from what it is now during daytime running (with headlights and running lights OFF). But the horizontal dimmer knob to the left of the steering column does not affect the brightness when the headlights are off. The dimmer knob functions as expected when the headlights/running lights are on.

Like in my setup I installed a aftermarket stereo and the factory plugs has a panel light lead. So after installing the adapter leads for the factory leads the lead for panel lights was unused so I ran it over to the aftermarket gauges. But now with my ISSPro gauges being LED lit they don't exactly dim at the right rate to the factory lighting.
