Koa is highly prized for its rarity and is rarely found outside of Hawaii. The islanders carefully select diseased or dying trees to cut, and once the koa tree is felled, it is shipped to a sawmill in the southeast of Pennsylvania to be cut into slabs. The sawmill, Hearne Hardwood, keeps.
