Follow the progress as the most photographed house in Georgia gets a facelift. The John Hudson Hunter House, built on South Main Street in Madison, Georgia, is also known as "The Gingerbread House." This Queen Anne style home built c. 1883 is a wonderful example of High Victorian Architecture in Morgan County.

Their children Mamie and Nathan inherited the home, and Nathan's wife Evelyn lived in it until she passed away at the age of 103, at which point their granddaughters, Layne and Laura Brightwell, bought the. Known as the "Gingerbread House" for the elaborate spindle-work on its porch, this eclectic Madison favorite was built by John Hudson Hunter. Madison Historic District, National Registe.
Hunter put his initials in the porch's gingerbread. If you look real close, you can see the two H's in this picture at the top. All the trimwork was made locally in Madison at Atkinson Variety Works.
His son inherited the house and married his bride at the ripe age of 72. His wife made this house a home until her passing at the age. The 1883 structure has a hipped roof with cross gables and a square tower.

The Hunter House, located on Main Street in Madison, was built in 1885 and is considered the most photographed house in all of Georgia.
