BMW is apparently claiming a life of around 8000 hrs (21 years with an hour of driving a day) but it's also a reasonably easy fix, so that's assuaged that concern. Otherwise, same as most EV's - less spent on servicing, more spent on tires (heavier). And having fewer parts in theory means there's less that can go wrong.

In my previous post I discussed the decision making process that led to me leasing a BMW i4 eDrive35 as the replacement for my Model 3 Performance being my daily driver. So now I've officially owned the car for 2 weeks, here is what I think of it so far.

BMW current EVs are more competitive than Mercedes and this isn't even the Neue Klasse cars. You could argue it's exactly because they're NOT the "Neue Klasse" cars and BMW offer their ICE cars as EVs (4 series, 5 series, and in china the 3 series is available as a full electric too, iirc). An ICE/EV platform makes sense for BMW's luxury positioning.

People keep mentioning the packaging and product benefits of EV-only design, but it can also achieve a lower variable cost per vehicle as well to hit a minimum cost, mass market EV.
