Alternative to Micro-set? Yes. Micro-sol? No. But either way, Micro-Sol and Micro-Set are pretty cheap, widely available in many hobby shops, and a bottle will last you decades.
I actually don't bother with setting solutions, just the Micro-Sol when the surface is curved/irregular, water works well enough to set the decals. Whether you're out of Micro Set and Micro Sol or just want a budget-friendly alternative, these easy. Since there are several decal solutions out on the market (and possibly on you bench).

Aloha all, I just purchased some Micro Sol from Sprue Brothers, but they were all out of the Micro Set. I've read that it's basically an acetic acid solution; can I make my own with white vinegar? How much should it be diluted, if at all? By the way, Sprue Brothers got my order shipped in less than 2 hours; pretty good in my book, and they immediately updated their stock listing on their. It doesn't appear to be as strong as it used to be.
Micro-Sol -> Mark Fit Strong or Solvaset -> Mr. Mark Setter in order of strength for me. Interestingly Mark Setter works much better than Mark Softer.
