After BMW took over the manufacturing facility Hans Glas GmbH Isaria Maschinenfabrik in Dingolfing, the Glas 1300/1700 GT designed by Pietro Frua was modified to form the BMW 1600 GT.
In contrast to the Glas 3000 V8, the compact coupé was extensively revised.
