Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the OnWater mobile app ("OnWater", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information. By using the app you agree to this policy.

Information We Collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and a unique account identifier via Google / Firebase Authentication. We store a profile you create (handle, display name, and an optional avatar photo).
• Location. With your permission, we collect your device's GPS location to show local weather, tide, and current conditions, to compute your boat speed and heading, and to tag catch reports you choose to share. If you deny location access, the app uses a default area instead.
• Photos. Photos you attach to a catch report or set as your avatar are uploaded and stored.
• User content. Catch reports, captions, comments, likes, saves, follows, and direct messages you send to other anglers.
• Diagnostic data. Crash and error reports (via Firebase Crashlytics) to help us fix bugs. These do not include the contents of your messages.

How We Use Information

• To provide the app's core features: weather/tide/current forecasts, the AI fishing recommendation, the social feed, profiles, follows, and direct messaging.
• To operate accounts and authenticate you.
• To diagnose crashes and improve reliability.

Third Parties

We share the minimum necessary data with these service providers:

• Google / Firebase — authentication, data storage, and crash reporting.
• OpenWeather — weather and forecast data (requested by our backend using your coordinates).
• NOAA — tide and current predictions (requested by our backend using your coordinates).
• Google Gemini — generates the AI fishing recommendation from current conditions.

API requests to OpenWeather, NOAA, and Gemini are made by our backend; the app does not send your data to these providers directly. We do not sell your personal information.

Data Retention

We retain account, profile, and user content for as long as your account is active. Diagnostic data is retained per Firebase Crashlytics' default retention. When you delete your account, associated personal data is removed as described below.

Your Choices and Data Deletion

• You can revoke location and photo permissions at any time in your device settings.
• You can delete individual catch reports you posted from within the app.
• To delete your account and all associated data, you can initiate deletion instantly from within the app settings (Profile -> Edit Profile -> Delete Account), or contact us at the email above; we will process email requests within 30 days.

Children

OnWater is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
