Mario And Luigi Color Blind

With everything in all of the Mario & Luigi games being color-coded red for Mario and green for Luigi, how does someone who's red-green or entirely color-blind play this game? Any guesses would be welcome, but I would like to hear from someone who has such color-blindedness. Many of the red and green elements are also marked with M's and L's.
Mario and Luigi switched hats? I think I'm just weak at seeing red, so I'm bad at distinguishing colors that only differ in their amount of red content. Orange looks similar to medium green, yellow looks similar to bright green, purple and deep pink and blue may be a toss-up for me, and I might mistake cyan or light pink for gray. Some of the earlier games would probably be very difficult to play if you're red-green color blind. I think from Dream Team onward though they started making colored attacks look visually different besides their color. For example, if an enemy shoots an energy ball attack, if it's going for Mario it would be more rounded and if it's going for Luigi it would be more spikey.
It would still be. Luigi and the dress was the two things i notice with the O. After reading your comment i saw the M is slightly harder and as Mario to also the overalls, took me a while.

Mario and Luigi's outfits look the same to red. I just realized today that I can't tell Mario and Luigi apart very well, especially when they're small, especially when they're moving a lot. Just figured I'd share.
Luigi was always taller, which is what I always used. Also, his hat is much brighter and at a brightness where it's easy to tell the different "colors" my eyes see apart. Colombian actor John Leguizamo said he was disappointed that 'people of color' weren't cast as Mario and Luigi.
