Sonic Colors: Ultimate uses a mix of Godot 3 and Hedgehog Engine, but originally there was no mention of Godot anywhere (the game supposedly runs on the "Blind Squirrel Engine", which may or may not be a violation of Godot's license agreement). Blind Squirrel acknowledged this and added Godot into the credits with the release of the v1.0.4 patch. Modified Godot to have better support for Sonic Colours: Ultimate.
It's incredible really that these guys are talking about using Godot on consoles when it is in such bad shape. Even if it's a bait and switch, and they spend 100% of the funds on just like, making the engine better, $8m isn't going to get you to 1/20th of Unity or Unreal. It is an insurmountable niche.
Games This section lists Sonic games by their engine, alongside their internal name. In this page, you're also able to access the game's own HedgeDocs page, which contains game specific guides, tools, and documentation. Hedgehog Engine * Sonic Colors: Ultimate also makes use of a forked version of Godot 3.
Hedgehog Engine 2. (Godot 3.5 and Godot 4.0) Whether 2D games or 3D games, these projects are showing what Godot is capable of producing by indie game developers and game development studios alike. The original Sonic Colors wasn't on the Hedgehog engine since the Wii wasn't powerful enough to support its shaders, visual effects and level streaming.
There are a few acts of Tropical Resort where there's still level data from two different acts, minus object and enemy placement, though. I'm guessing another reason they went with Godot is because they handed off porting to a 3rd party dev. Hedgehog Engine is what the game was originally built on.
Godot is apparently used for the graphics part of this remaster only, with the original game code still running behind the scenes. Blind Squirrel Engine just looks like it is their Godot fork. Reply reply KinkyMonitorLizard.
