When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to tear. To go along with this story, we decided to make our very own net full of fish! Here's what you'll need to make one as well: a paper plate, fingerpaint (markers or crayons would work too), construction paper, clear plastic wrap, and a Sharpie marker. 1.
Have your child use the fingerpaint to completely cover the entire paper plate. Let it dry. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn" (John 21:11).
On this occasion Jesus appeared to His disciples on the shore of the Sea of Tiberius, as they were in their boat returning from an unsuccessful night of fishing (John 21:1-3). When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch." Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets." When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.
So they signaled their partners in the other. To his amazement, their nets become so full of fish that they begin to break, and they have to call for help from another boat to manage the catch. This miraculous event ultimately leads Simon and his companions to forsake everything and follow Jesus, as it demonstrates to them the power and authority of Jesus.
9 When they arrived at the shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish lying on it, and some bread. 10 Jesus told them, "Bring me some of the fish you've just caught." 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish-153 of them.
And although there were so many of them, the net was not torn. The account of the net full of large fish is found in the Gospel of John, specifically in John 21:1-14. This event occurs after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is one of His post-resurrection appearances to His disciples.
Context and Setting: The setting of this miraculous event is the Sea of Tiberias, also known as the Sea of Galilee. "The Fishing Net Parable" Matthew 13:47-52: "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore.
Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore.
It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. The net was so full they had to drag it all the way. There were 153 big fish in the net.
There on the shore was another surprise for the tired and hungry fishermen. They saw a fire with fish on the coals, and some bread. How good that food looked to them after they had worked so long and so hard! Jesus had made a nice breakfast for them.
