What Is The Niche Of A Frog In A Pond

Simply - Bury a 5-gallon bucket in your yard this weekend and you'll have a working wildlife pond by Tuesday. No pump. No filter. No liner. The ecosystem balances itself — rocks on the bottom shelter aquatic larvae, a stick ramp lets anything that falls in climb back out, and water at ground level attracts frogs, birds, and dragonflies that never touch elevated birdbaths. Here's what moves in once the water settles: 🐸 American green tree frogs find standing water within weeks and return to the same spot every season — each one consuming hundreds of insects per night. 🪲 Dragonflies arrive fast. Adults are among the most effective natural mosquito hunters in any backyard, targeting both adults in the air and larvae at the water surface. 🐦 Ground-level water draws ground-feeding birds

These aren't just pretty ponds — they're built for real amphibian visitors! 🐸✨ #FrogPondIdeas #NaturalPond #WildlifeGardening #BackyardOasis #PondPlants

Having frogs in the garden is definitely a laudable goal - frogs will help reduce insect populations and make you sing their songs. The best way to share your garden with frogs is to simply build a frog-friendly pond. Restoring their natural habitat is the best way to attract frogs (toads are good too) and keep them from migrating in search of more frog-friendly environments. #enjoythepets

920 reactions · 44 shares | You don’t need a pond to have frogs! 🐸 I write a weekly gardening column for the Sunday times, which takes me to all sorts of fantastic gardens around Perth. In the last 3 years it has taught me SO many great gardening tactics, and adding water bowls for frogs is one of my favourites. I’ve been to so many gardens that don’t have ponds but are filled with frogs. Their secret? Water bowls dotted all around the place! This is the best garden hack if you want frogs but can’t add a pond to your patch, and so I’ve joined forces with my favourite local pots shop, @pots_wa to share a few tips for adding a water bowl to your own garden, and stacking the decks in your favour for attracting frogs. First up, get a pot without holes. This might sound obvious but lots of people fall in love with regular (holey) pots and then try to seal the holes - a sure recipe for leaks and frustration! @pots_wa have a range of gorgeous clay water bowls (the one I’m planting in the video is called Atlantis), as well as lightweight bowls you can use if you’d prefer something that is easier to shift. Next, choose the right location. Avoid afternoon sun which can make your pots overheat & burn your water plants. Morning sun is ideal! Speaking of water plants, if you want to attract local frogs (like motorbike frogs, slender tree frogs, western banjo frogs and more), you need local native plants. Inside your pond (in the water) try the native water lily (ottelia ovalifolia), and the tassel sedge (carex fascicularis). Next, provide shelter - logs, leaf litter and rocks can be placed around your water bowl, to mimic a natural environment and give frogs a hiding place. Try to have some plants or logs overhanging some of the bowl as well. To avoid mosquito problems while still encouraging frogs, add naive fish that are frog-friendly. Try western Pygmy Perch or Swan River Gobys. Also, although you probably want to show off your water bowl, avoid putting it in a busy spot - pick a secluded area where you won’t scare your frogs away. Then watch and wait! Check out the water bowl range from @pots_wa online, or at one of their stores in Cottesloe, Cockburn, Wanneroo and Golden Bay ❤️🐸 | Learn to Garden | Casey Joy | Facebook
