The BMW 635 CSI was the most powerful version of the first generation of the 6 series coupe at the time of its launch on the market in 1979. It was a coupe faster and more comfortable than other. Originally, the 6 Series was developed as a successor to the "E9" (BMW-philes love to refer to their cars by their internal BMW chassis codes) coupes, sold as the 2800 CS and 3.0 CS.
That first 6, codenamed "E24," debuted in 1976, when coupes were king, and had enough stayling power to last until the 1989 model year. First used on a two-door coupe during the 1970s and 1980s, the 6 Series moniker returned to the BMW line-up for the 2004 model year.
