A second Toyota Tundra engine failure recall was launched and thousands of failing engines pushed the automaker to expand the recall. PLANO, Texas (Oct. 1, 2025) - Toyota is conducting a noncompliance recall involving certain MY2022-2025 Toyota Tundra and Tundra hybrid models and certain MY2023-2025 Sequoia vehicles.
Approximately 394,000 vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S. The hybrids are of course involved in the engine recall, in my opinion, because they have the exact same engines. However, since the hybrids can be driven after a catastrophic engine failure, my guess is that is why they are not included in the SAFETY recall.
On May 30, 2024, Toyota filed a Defect Information Report (DIR) with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informing the agency of our intent to conduct a voluntary Safety Recall on certain 2022. The Toyota Tundra, Lexus GX, and Lexus LX have all been impacted by ongoing issues with their twin. Toyota's recall extends to over 440,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models with model years ranging from 2022.
A Toyota Tundra class action lawsuit alleges an engine recall is not good enough to repair the trucks. The Toyota Tundra engine class action wasn't filed until the automaker announced it was. Toyota has expanded its engine recall covering 2022-2024 Tundra, LX 600 and GX 550 models after continued failures.
Interestingly, Toyota Tundra Hybrid models aren't included in the recall, despite using virtually identical engines. Toyota's explanation is that hybrids retain some motive power through their electric motor if the gas engine fails.
