Understanding Bullet Point Styles in Word

Before we start, it's important to understand that Word uses a default bullet point style, which includes a color. To remove this color, we need to modify the bullet point style itself.

In this guide, we'll be using Word 2019, but the process is similar in other versions. If you're using an older version, some menu options might differ slightly.

Accessing the Bullet Point Style

To access the bullet point style, you'll need to use the 'Home' tab in the Word ribbon. Here, you'll find the 'Styles' group, which includes a dropdown menu for bullet points. Clicking on this will show you the currently applied bullet point style.

For now, just make a mental note of the style you're using. We'll be changing this later on.

Understanding the 'Multilevel List' Option

Another way to access and modify bullet point styles is through the 'Multilevel List' option, also found in the 'Home' tab under the 'Paragraph' group. This option allows you to choose from a variety of predefined bullet point styles.

However, these styles are also pre-set with colors, so we won't be using this method to remove color from our bullet points. Instead, we'll be creating a new bullet point style with no color.

First, click on the 'Home' tab in the Word ribbon. Then, click on the small arrow at the bottom of the 'Styles' group. This will open a dropdown menu with a variety of styles. At the bottom of this menu, you'll see an option called 'Create New Style from Formatting...'. Click on this.
