The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R therefore combines all the classic BMW hallmarks within a modern and emotionally rich design language, adding even greater lustre to the already glittering engineering achievement of 40 years ago. BMW has pulled a Lamborghini-style surprise and unveiled this radical new racing concept at Pebble Beach. Officially, it's called the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R.

Unofficially, we're calling it. The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept is a striking design exercise that's unlikely to see production. CAR magazine gets behind the wheel of the incredible BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage concept car and takes it for a drive.

This Hommage rides incredibly low. Some background The Hommage pays "homage" to the later versions of the CSL coupe, also referred to as the Batmobile! Developed from the E9 in conjunction with the Alpina, the CSL earned cult status due to its aero kit and dominance of the European Touring Car championship through the 1970s. In May, BMW unveiled the striking 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept as a tribute to its original 1971 3.0 CSL Coupe, a lightweight road.

The BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage is a vision of pure athleticism: the elongated body is set off by distinctive air deflectors, powerful wheel arches and prominent spoilers to the roof and tail. Despite its size, the aerodynamic elements are key in enabling air to flow optimally along the sides of the vehicle. Much like the previous Hommage concept, the 3.0 CSL Hommage R is a great way to pay tribute to one of BMW's most iconic race cars and celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary in North America.

This model is the BMW Design Team's tribute to the 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and iconic BMW Coupé from the 1970s.
