The HU’s 2020 USA Tour: What Was Announced and What Changed
The HU tour 2020 USA schedule was one of the most highly anticipated rock and metal tours of the year, bringing the Mongolian folk metal band’s blend of traditional throat singing, horsehead fiddle, and heavy guitar riffs to American stages. Initially, the band had planned a full-scale North American run in 2020, building on the momentum of their 2019 debut album, The Gereg, and their viral online presence. The tour was expected to solidify their reputation as one of the most unique live acts in modern metal.
Venues across major U.S. cities booked dates for spring and summer 2020, with the tour marketed around the band’s fusion of Mongolian cultural heritage and Western rock. Promotional materials emphasized immersive visuals, traditional costumes, and high-energy performances rooted in centuries-old nomadic music traditions. Many shows were positioned as crossover events for fans of metal, world music, and live spectacle.
Tour Concept and Musical Style
At the heart of The HU tour 2020 USA concept was the band’s signature sound, often described as “hunnu rock.” Founded with the goal of reimagining Mongolian folk music within a contemporary rock and metal framework, the group incorporates throat singing and traditional instruments such as the horsehead fiddle and tovshuur alongside distorted guitars and driving drum patterns.
For the U.S. markets, the tour was designed to showcase this hybrid style in an accessible, arena-sized format. Early press coverage highlighted how The HU’s live show translated effectively from festival stages to indoor venues, with extended vocal harmonies and heavy breakdowns tailored for crossover appeal. The setlists were expected to draw from The Gereg alongside earlier singles that had already gained traction on streaming platforms and social media.
Pandemic Impact and Schedule Disruptions
Like many international tours, The HU tour 2020 USA was heavily affected by the global pandemic. As COVID-19 restrictions were introduced in early 2020, live events across North America were postponed or canceled. Dates that had been announced or were in advanced booking stages were either rescheduled or left in uncertainty depending on local regulations and venue policies.
The resulting disruptions meant that the band’s broader U.S. plans could not proceed as envisioned. In some cases, shows were pushed to later years once health guidelines permitted larger gatherings, while others were quietly taken off schedules. Tour organizers and promoters faced ongoing logistical challenges, including international travel restrictions affecting a band based outside the U.S. and shifting audience comfort levels with indoor concerts.
Fan Reception and Cultural Significance
Despite the setbacks, interest in The HU tour 2020 USA remained strong among fans. The band’s online following continued to grow through live stream performances, music videos, and social media content. This sustained engagement helped keep momentum for future live appearances, and many venues reported continued inquiries about postponed or rescheduled dates.
The cultural significance of the tour lies in its role as a bridge between Mongolian musical traditions and global rock audiences. The HU’s live performances are as much about storytelling and identity as they are about heavy music, offering American concertgoers a direct encounter with nomadic themes, historical narratives, and contemporary interpretations of identity. That cultural exchange is a key reason why the band has attracted not only metal fans, but also audiences interested in world music and cross-cultural collaboration.
Looking Ahead for The HU in the U.S.
While the original The HU tour 2020 USA lineup could not be fully realized as planned, the band’s long-term presence in North America remains active. Subsequent tours and festival appearances have taken place as live events resumed, allowing The HU to expand their reach in new markets and build on the anticipation generated in 2019–2020. For fans who missed the intended 2020 dates, updated schedules and announcements through the band’s official channels typically outline new U.S. stops and ticketing information.
The experience of the 2020 disruption also highlighted the demand for distinctive international acts within the American live music landscape. The HU’s blend of heavy riffs, traditional instrumentation, and culturally informed performance fills a niche that few other touring acts can match. As the band continues to release new material and evolve its live show, the legacy of the planned 2020 tour serves as a reminder of both the volatility of the live music industry and the enduring appeal of large-scale cultural crossover projects.
