WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:05.880
In this video, I'm going to show you an even faster way to make several bodies at once.

00:05.880 --> 00:11.880
Alright, so in the last view, we explored smartmates, which was a great time saver for mating

00:11.880 --> 00:14.720
bodies using basic mates.

00:14.720 --> 00:22.000
But if we wanted to, we could actually take the conditions of this mate and repeat them

00:22.000 --> 00:26.880
in a single command at every instance that they would occur instead of having to bring

00:26.880 --> 00:32.720
in the screw three more times and then running through that mating process all over again.

00:32.720 --> 00:37.280
And the way we do that is if we go up here to basic assembly tools in this drop-down

00:37.280 --> 00:42.360
menu here, the pattern-driven component pattern.

00:42.360 --> 00:47.720
So we've created patterns in assemblies before, linear and circular, but we haven't done

00:47.720 --> 00:50.120
anything that's driven by a component itself.

00:50.120 --> 00:52.480
So let's take a look at that.

00:52.480 --> 00:57.000
Now the way this works is, we'll first select the component that needs to be duplicated

00:57.000 --> 01:03.440
and then mated to the new areas, and in this case, it's this screw, and then it asks

01:03.440 --> 01:05.360
for a driving feature.

01:05.360 --> 01:12.640
So at this point, we need to select a surface or a vertex that is part of a feature that

01:12.640 --> 01:18.440
was created that is necessary for that mate to occur.

01:18.440 --> 01:24.800
In this case, this surface right here was created from a hole, a single cut.

01:24.800 --> 01:28.880
We did a cut extrude in one of our early videos that cut all four holes.

01:28.880 --> 01:34.800
This surface right here was created by the hole wizard, which is again just a single feature.

01:34.800 --> 01:39.040
So if we were to say, select this surface here.

01:39.040 --> 01:42.920
Oh, rather, let's get out of components of pattern.

01:42.920 --> 01:46.400
Make sure we're highlighted into driving feature or component.

01:46.400 --> 01:49.240
Select a surface created by the hole wizard.

01:49.240 --> 01:56.520
All right, it's populated a screw with similar mates in that spot there.

01:56.520 --> 02:04.520
And it's also recognized the other instances on that surface where that feature exists.

02:04.520 --> 02:07.320
So therefore, we've gotten four screws for the price of one.

02:07.320 --> 02:08.320
Let's go ahead and close this out.

02:08.320 --> 02:11.080
Like any pattern we can do instances to skip, but we're going to leave this alone for

02:11.080 --> 02:13.040
right now.

02:13.040 --> 02:19.880
Now this works especially well when doing fasteners and patterning to a whole wizard feature.

02:19.880 --> 02:23.600
And that's why it's great to use whole wizard when you're going to have a part that has

02:23.600 --> 02:26.160
a lot of screws in it.

02:26.160 --> 02:29.960
And especially if you're going to be mating all those screws, alternatively one by one,

02:29.960 --> 02:31.560
which you don't want to do.

02:31.560 --> 02:38.720
So go ahead before the next video, add screws to this hole, this hole, this hole, and this

02:38.720 --> 02:42.480
hole using any method you wish.

02:42.480 --> 02:48.200
And we will begin to look at some more complex mates available in SOLIDWORKS.
