WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:04.640
I'm going back to the Navisworks video series.

00:04.640 --> 00:10.440
In this video, we'll be continuing with Timelineer and we'll be discussing how to attach a schedule

00:10.440 --> 00:12.200
coming from an external program.

00:12.200 --> 00:19.640
We'll be using the gatehouse.nwd model in your gatehouse folder, which is located underneath

00:19.640 --> 00:25.040
lesson 5.

00:25.040 --> 00:29.720
This gatehouse doesn't have any tasks assigned.

00:29.720 --> 00:31.760
It has no data sources.

00:31.760 --> 00:36.120
It is essentially a 3D model.

00:36.120 --> 00:42.240
If you use an external program like Primavera or Microsoft Project or any other programs to

00:42.240 --> 00:49.440
make your schedule, then you can export them either to a CSV file or in the case of Primavera

00:49.440 --> 00:54.080
MP3 MP6, you can leave them in their native formats.

00:54.080 --> 00:58.520
The same goes with Microsoft Project MPX.

00:58.520 --> 01:04.560
To attach an external file, you just go to the Data Sources tab, select Add, and then

01:04.560 --> 01:10.240
here are your choices of file formats.

01:10.240 --> 01:15.720
We're going to practice on the Microsoft Project MPX file.

01:15.800 --> 01:18.600
That file is located within the gatehouse folder.

01:18.600 --> 01:23.320
You'll see the only one mark MPX is called gatehouse underline Timelineer.

01:23.320 --> 01:24.840
Let's open that file.

01:24.840 --> 01:30.040
Whenever you select a file to attach to your model and it'll ask you which of the fields

01:30.040 --> 01:35.480
from the Navisworks file, which are located on the left hand side, do you want to attach

01:35.480 --> 01:38.160
to your external field?

01:38.160 --> 01:42.280
In our case, we really want to concentrate on the plan start date, plan end date, actual

01:42.280 --> 01:45.640
start and actual end.

01:45.640 --> 01:52.360
The way that you set up your scheduling software is to have some kind of label that is similar

01:52.360 --> 01:55.880
to what you want Navisworks to tie to.

01:55.880 --> 02:01.160
For this example, we have a plan start date and in the external project, the MPX, we have

02:01.160 --> 02:03.000
a plan start.

02:03.000 --> 02:04.800
Let's link those two fields together.

02:04.800 --> 02:11.040
It's the same thing with planned end.

02:11.040 --> 02:23.080
We have it labeled as planned finish and then actual start and actual end will be planned

02:23.080 --> 02:24.080
or actual finish.

02:24.080 --> 02:30.480
So in our Navisworks, we'll know where to find the plan start information and plan end

02:30.480 --> 02:33.320
and all of the other start information.

02:33.320 --> 02:40.560
You'll see once you hit OK that you have a data source and it tells you what type it

02:40.560 --> 02:42.800
is and it tells you it's location.

02:42.800 --> 02:48.120
Your location will vary from mine and then to tie into your project, you'll right click

02:48.120 --> 02:54.800
on the new data source and then go to rebuild task hierarchy.

02:54.800 --> 02:57.800
You may get some errors that there are some fields that are missing.

02:57.800 --> 03:00.280
That should be OK.

03:00.280 --> 03:08.400
You may have more information in your external file than you have to use in Navisworks.

03:08.400 --> 03:20.560
When you rebuild the hierarchy, that places this list of data into your task list.

03:20.560 --> 03:26.520
So on the left hand side, we have all of our tasks and on the right hand side, we have

03:26.520 --> 03:35.240
a schedule, a graphic schedule.

03:35.240 --> 03:37.760
Normally we have no geometry attached to these tasks.

03:37.760 --> 03:39.960
We just have the tasks themselves.

03:39.960 --> 03:48.240
Now, the way that gatehouse.nwd is organized, the layer is correspond with the items in

03:48.240 --> 03:56.440
our project scheduler and it makes it very easy if you have items in the model corresponding

03:56.440 --> 04:06.640
with item names in the schedule because you can just right click on the data source and

04:06.640 --> 04:13.440
then go down to auto add tasks for every topmost layer.

04:13.440 --> 04:17.880
What that does is to look at the topmost layer, which is the first layer underneath the

04:17.880 --> 04:26.000
gatehouse.nwd and then to look at each of the titles of our IDs or names.

04:27.000 --> 04:35.280
And if those names match, then it will assign the layer with the task.

04:35.280 --> 04:39.880
If you scroll down this list, now you'll see that some of these task entries have plans

04:39.880 --> 04:43.680
certain planned end dates.

04:43.680 --> 04:50.960
And then you'll see on the schedule that we have some tasks happening, in this case,

04:50.960 --> 04:53.400
week 25 and week 26.

04:53.400 --> 05:06.080
But you'll see if you scroll up, then it goes all the way back to week 0.

05:06.080 --> 05:13.240
You should also note that we don't have any actual starts and actual ends in our schedule.

05:13.240 --> 05:16.600
So our status bar is set to gray.

05:16.600 --> 05:20.720
You'll see this change if we have a difference between plan start and actual start planned

05:20.720 --> 05:24.200
end and actual end.

05:24.200 --> 05:36.760
Let's go over to simulate and press play.

05:36.760 --> 05:42.120
You'll see that each of the items that we have attached to the tasks are now popping

05:42.120 --> 06:02.720
in like we have configured.

06:02.720 --> 06:07.080
And if you run your simulation all the way to the end, you will have a complete model

06:07.080 --> 06:08.240
in model appearance.
