WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:04.880
Welcome back to the VDCI video course content for Reva MEP for plumbing.

00:04.880 --> 00:08.700
In the previous video, we went ahead and got all of our system for our domestic hot and

00:08.700 --> 00:10.300
cool water in.

00:10.300 --> 00:14.900
And now I want to kind of change gears a little bit and let's talk about fixtures.

00:14.900 --> 00:20.340
So the fixtures that you see here are currently part of the linked architectural model.

00:20.340 --> 00:25.420
Now those are great and typically the architect will determine those locations, but we obviously

00:25.420 --> 00:29.500
need to be able to connect into these for our pipe network.

00:29.500 --> 00:35.440
So what we want to go ahead and do is a couple of different ways of creating these fixtures.

00:35.440 --> 00:39.220
We could just place them just like you would any other family.

00:39.220 --> 00:42.840
We could go ahead and just place individual fixtures in those exact locations if we

00:42.840 --> 00:43.840
want to.

00:43.840 --> 00:47.080
There is also the ability to do copy monitor.

00:47.080 --> 00:50.480
So copy monitor allows us just like what we did with our levels.

00:50.480 --> 00:54.880
And if we had grids in this model, we would probably do with our grids too, is that the

00:54.880 --> 00:59.080
copy monitor allows us to kind of track and see possible changes.

00:59.080 --> 01:03.800
So if the architect say the architect decides to move this fixture left or right up and

01:03.800 --> 01:08.960
down, whatever, the location of it changes, we would be alerted to that and we would be

01:08.960 --> 01:12.880
able to match up to that if we so desired.

01:12.880 --> 01:18.040
So I want to kind of talk about the fixtures a little bit before we actually get into making

01:18.040 --> 01:22.960
copies of them because how Reva has broken this up or how Autodesk has broken this up is

01:23.040 --> 01:26.280
there's two different types of fixtures when you load in a fixture.

01:26.280 --> 01:30.000
There is an architectural version, which does not have any connectors on it.

01:30.000 --> 01:35.400
If you go back to our water heater that we created, we created these connectors so that

01:35.400 --> 01:39.400
we can have our hot water come in, our hot water, our cold water come in, our hot water

01:39.400 --> 01:42.840
come out, so on and so forth.

01:42.840 --> 01:47.240
So we want to go ahead and the one that the architect has decided to use here is going

01:47.240 --> 01:50.760
to be one that does not have connectors, it's an architectural element.

01:50.760 --> 01:54.760
So we're going to want to use what they call the MEP ones, which have the connectors built

01:54.760 --> 01:56.960
in and let me show you what I'm talking about.

01:56.960 --> 02:03.400
If I go over to the insert tab under the insert tab, there is this load Autodesk family.

02:03.400 --> 02:07.720
Now this load Autodesk family, if you click on it, it's going to bring up a library

02:07.720 --> 02:10.800
of content that Autodesk has created.

02:10.800 --> 02:15.280
Now this content used to be installed on your machine when you installed Revit, but

02:15.280 --> 02:20.880
it is no longer installed on your machine, it is now under this load Autodesk family.

02:20.880 --> 02:22.680
That happened a couple of years ago.

02:22.680 --> 02:26.240
So now what you can do is you can see all the different categories here.

02:26.240 --> 02:28.400
You can search up here at the top.

02:28.400 --> 02:32.840
You can local setting so you can change, you know, United States Imperial, United States

02:32.840 --> 02:33.840
metric.

02:33.840 --> 02:37.040
There's a bunch of different locales that they have here, so it gives you a little bit

02:37.040 --> 02:42.560
of a larger library that you might possibly be able to use.

02:42.560 --> 02:44.400
You can change what it looks like.

02:44.400 --> 02:49.680
So do you want it to be kind of large tabs like this, or do you want it to be a list

02:49.680 --> 02:52.920
of you as such, and then just an about page.

02:52.920 --> 02:55.360
So there is a, how do I find in load content?

02:55.360 --> 02:58.480
If you want to check that out, that would take you to a web page that will kind of tell

02:58.480 --> 03:01.840
you how to use this load Autodesk family, but it's pretty straightforward.

03:01.840 --> 03:05.480
You just check the box, hit load, and it loads those items in.

03:05.480 --> 03:10.480
So if I look here under plumbing, and I go down, you can see I have architectural and

03:10.480 --> 03:11.480
I have MEP.

03:11.760 --> 03:14.720
Well, architectural, we have some equipment and we have some fixtures.

03:14.720 --> 03:19.000
MEP, we have some equipment and a little bit expanded list of equipment here.

03:19.000 --> 03:22.400
And under fixtures, we have some expanded items here.

03:22.400 --> 03:23.720
So we have a couple of different things.

03:23.720 --> 03:25.680
You see we have like appliances here.

03:25.680 --> 03:31.160
We have connectors, let's see what else is the difference, emergency fixtures, lavatories,

03:31.160 --> 03:32.160
so on and so forth.

03:32.160 --> 03:34.120
So there are some differences here.

03:34.120 --> 03:38.800
Now if I click into syncs here, and you look closely at these images, notice that these

03:38.800 --> 03:42.440
3D images, they just have the geometry of the sync.

03:42.440 --> 03:47.320
So we have a sync kitchen double, sync kitchen island, sync kitchen single, so on and so

03:47.320 --> 03:48.320
forth.

03:48.320 --> 03:55.040
If I go back to my plumbing category, I go down to MEP, and I go down to syncs.

03:55.040 --> 03:58.440
Notice how you have these little lines that are like the little colors.

03:58.440 --> 04:02.360
Those are going to go ahead and be our actual connectors.

04:02.360 --> 04:06.480
So the architectural fixtures do not have the connectors to tie in the hot water, the cold

04:07.480 --> 04:09.480
water, the waste systems, those kind of things.

04:09.480 --> 04:16.440
They just have, the architectural ones are just the 3D information or 2D in some instances.

04:16.440 --> 04:20.840
But the MEP fixtures are the ones that actually have the connectors, and I really strongly recommend

04:20.840 --> 04:24.040
using the MEP ones that have the connectors.

04:24.040 --> 04:26.000
That's obviously what we want to use.

04:26.000 --> 04:30.640
So that's kind of the main difference between the architectural and the MEP.

04:30.640 --> 04:34.840
There is again in the MEP, you have some additional items, you have some appliances here.

04:34.840 --> 04:39.240
They have like a dishwasher, kitchen, stacked washer, and dryer washing machine.

04:39.240 --> 04:41.720
What else do they have?

04:41.720 --> 04:45.280
Under lavatories, they have these specific kind of lavatories, which we'll be using some

04:45.280 --> 04:46.280
of these.

04:46.280 --> 04:50.120
So we're going to go ahead and we'll come back to this load some items in because we need

04:50.120 --> 04:53.400
to talk about a couple of things, the copy monitor.

04:53.400 --> 04:56.640
Now with that being said, the differences between the architectural and the MEP, we have

04:56.640 --> 05:00.600
to think about how we want to do the copy monitor before we do it.

05:00.600 --> 05:03.640
If we copy monitor in the wrong thing, it can kind of be a little troublesome.

05:03.640 --> 05:08.040
There's a little bit of pre-work that needs to go into this copy monitor.

05:08.040 --> 05:10.560
So let's take a look at the copy monitor settings.

05:10.560 --> 05:15.800
So if I go over to my Collaborate tab, and I'm going to go to Copy, Monitor, pull down,

05:15.800 --> 05:17.560
and hit Select Link.

05:17.560 --> 05:20.480
You can highlight and click on the link here.

05:20.480 --> 05:24.120
And then you have this contextual tab come up for Copy Monitor.

05:24.120 --> 05:28.160
You have Options, Copy, Monitor, Coordination Settings, or Batch Copy.

05:28.160 --> 05:33.240
If we go into our Coordination settings here, you'll see that it gives us a list of

05:33.240 --> 05:37.760
items, a list of categories that we can copy monitor from, say, the MEP Architectural

05:37.760 --> 05:38.760
Model.

05:38.760 --> 05:42.120
If we needed to, and there are more than one model linked in, say, we had a structural

05:42.120 --> 05:47.480
model linked in, or an electrical model linked in, we could pull down here and choose which

05:47.480 --> 05:50.360
file that we wanted to copy monitor from.

05:50.360 --> 05:52.400
But it's going to apply to this one.

05:52.400 --> 05:55.360
Also we obviously picked a link that we wanted to copy monitor from.

05:55.360 --> 05:58.200
So that's why this pull down is such.

05:58.200 --> 06:00.480
So you see all these different categories here.

06:00.480 --> 06:03.280
And you see under Plumbing Fictures, we kind of have this plus sign.

06:03.280 --> 06:07.760
Well, that's because under Plumbing Fictures, I have set the Copy Behavior to Allow Batch

06:07.760 --> 06:09.440
Copy.

06:09.440 --> 06:14.200
So you have Allow Batch Copy, Copy, Individually, or Ignore the category completely.

06:14.200 --> 06:17.560
Please make sure yours says Allow Batch Copy because we want to copy all these fixtures

06:17.560 --> 06:19.040
at once.

06:19.040 --> 06:21.760
Then the Mapping Behavior, Specified Type Mapping.

06:21.760 --> 06:25.400
So you could choose Copy Original, which is just going to take whatever the architect

06:25.400 --> 06:30.320
has placed in their model, make a copy of that in place in our model, or we can

06:30.320 --> 06:34.880
specify Type Mapping, saying, hey, I know the architect is using this fixture.

06:34.880 --> 06:36.800
We want to use this fixture instead.

06:36.800 --> 06:39.120
Please replace it with this fixture.

06:39.120 --> 06:41.640
We're going to go ahead and use Specified Type Mapping.

06:41.640 --> 06:43.160
Go ahead and check that box.

06:43.160 --> 06:46.120
It's going to give you a little or select that there.

06:46.120 --> 06:49.800
It's going to give you a little pop down beneath Plumbing Fictures for the Type Mapping.

06:49.800 --> 06:51.520
Let's go ahead and click into that.

06:51.520 --> 06:58.240
So you can see we have Lavatory Vanity, Lavatory Oval A, Sink Kitchen Single, Urinal Wall

06:58.240 --> 07:01.520
Hung A, and Water Closet, Wall Mounted.

07:01.520 --> 07:05.920
So we can go ahead and we can set up specific types.

07:05.920 --> 07:10.040
So in the linked model, this is the ones in the Architectural, in the Host Model, which

07:10.040 --> 07:13.000
is our model, we can choose what we want to do.

07:13.000 --> 07:17.320
Well, in this instance, we don't necessarily want to copy Original Type.

07:17.320 --> 07:21.000
We want to specify which ones, but I think we're going to need to go ahead and load some

07:21.000 --> 07:25.600
items in here because we don't have all of them in here.

07:25.640 --> 07:30.040
So you can see we have Sink Kitchen Double, Sink Mop, but we don't have the ones that

07:30.040 --> 07:31.040
we actually want.

07:31.040 --> 07:32.600
So we're going to need to load these in.

07:32.600 --> 07:34.040
So we're going to need to remember these a little bit.

07:34.040 --> 07:35.280
We might have to come back.

07:35.280 --> 07:40.880
This is one of the things with this copy monitor that you have to be aware of is that

07:40.880 --> 07:44.880
you have to think about what fixtures are you copying over first, have them preloaded

07:44.880 --> 07:48.360
into your project, and then specify the Type Mapping.

07:48.360 --> 07:51.680
There really isn't a template way to set this up.

07:51.680 --> 07:56.120
It could set it up as a template, but not in the traditional sense of a template.

07:56.120 --> 08:03.040
So what we have here, so we have a lavatory vanity, lavatory oval A, a kitchen sink

08:03.040 --> 08:05.880
single, wall hung, and water closet.

08:05.880 --> 08:08.480
So I'm going to hit Save and Close.

08:08.480 --> 08:11.840
I'm going to hit Finish, I'm just going to hit cancel on this, excuse me, and let's go

08:11.840 --> 08:15.880
ahead and go back to our insert, load auto desk family.

08:15.880 --> 08:19.200
So I'm going to go down to my plumbing.

08:19.200 --> 08:21.960
I'm going to go to my lavatories.

08:21.960 --> 08:23.480
Let's start with our lavatories.

08:23.480 --> 08:27.600
We want to go ahead and load lavatory oval and lavatory vanity.

08:27.600 --> 08:29.520
We're going to load both of those.

08:29.520 --> 08:32.560
I'm going to hit Load.

08:32.560 --> 08:33.560
And there we go.

08:33.560 --> 08:36.800
The only unfortunate thing about this load auto family is once you load it closes you

08:36.800 --> 08:37.800
out.

08:37.800 --> 08:39.440
So to get the other ones, we have to go back in.

08:39.440 --> 08:43.000
I'm going to go back to my MEP.

08:43.000 --> 08:46.040
I'm going to go to Urinals.

08:46.040 --> 08:50.920
I'm going to grab Urinal Wall Home, and I'm going to go ahead and load.

08:50.920 --> 08:54.880
Again, I'm going to go back to load auto desk family.

08:54.880 --> 08:57.560
I'm going to click Back on Fictures.

08:57.560 --> 08:59.560
Luckily, it remembers where we were.

08:59.560 --> 09:02.240
I'm going to go to Water Closets.

09:02.240 --> 09:07.280
And we are going to go ahead and use, let's see, I sometimes like to see the entire name

09:07.280 --> 09:08.280
here.

09:08.280 --> 09:11.320
We're going to use the Water Closet flush valve wall mounted.

09:11.320 --> 09:13.920
Load.

09:13.920 --> 09:17.480
And then the last one we need to go ahead and load in the sink.

09:17.480 --> 09:18.480
Load auto's family.

09:18.480 --> 09:20.320
So I'm going to go back to Fictures.

09:20.320 --> 09:22.120
I'm going to go to Syncs.

09:22.120 --> 09:25.040
Now you can see that we don't necessarily have the exact sync that we want.

09:25.040 --> 09:28.440
We're going to go ahead and use the Sync Island single, and we're just going to create

09:28.440 --> 09:34.400
a new type that matches the 30 by 21 size that we were given by the previous one.

09:34.400 --> 09:37.840
I'm going to go ahead and hit Load.

09:37.840 --> 09:38.840
And there we go.
