WEBVTT

00:00.000 --> 00:08.000
Let's begin the process of creating a one by one standard size detail border.

00:08.000 --> 00:17.000
So I'm going to go File New, I can either go File New up there, or I can wait for this to collapse,

00:17.000 --> 00:27.000
I can go to the Start menu, and I can create a new drawing using the template and choose VDCi01 is my drawing template file,

00:27.000 --> 00:42.000
and then I can save my file, I'm in my CAD folder, and I'm going to go down and choose my VDCiDTuborder1horizonal1vertical.dwg, and overwrite the file.

00:42.000 --> 00:51.000
I'm going to go back to my 30 by 42 drawing, I'm going to say Edit, Copy with Base Point, I'm going to choose a base point of right here,

00:51.000 --> 01:03.000
and put a window around the one cell, come into here, and go Ctrl V, and pop it in at 00, zoom extents.

01:03.000 --> 01:12.000
Go into my 22 by 34, do the same thing, Edit, Copy with Base Point, here's a base point, put a window around it,

01:12.000 --> 01:24.000
go to the one horizontal one vertical, pop it in at 00, and you can see that here is the size of my detailed border for a 30 by 42,

01:24.000 --> 01:37.000
here's the same one by one for a 22 by 34, and the distance in the sizes is right around 9.16 of an inch in the X direction, and 149.256 in the Y position.

01:37.000 --> 01:46.000
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to move the smaller detail so that it's at the centroid of the other detail.

01:46.000 --> 01:55.000
I'm going to go to Home tab, I'm going to draw a line from the end to the end, and a line from the end to the end.

01:55.000 --> 02:04.000
I'm going to move these from the mid of the angled line to the mid of this angled line.

02:05.000 --> 02:11.000
I can erase this, and I can save the file, zoom extents, zoom real time.

02:11.000 --> 02:21.000
So here's what's going to happen, we're going to keep everything we draw, everything we draw, we're going to keep it within this interior rectangle,

02:21.000 --> 02:30.000
but when we go to pop the detail into the sheets, we'll either position them using that outer corner or this inner corner.

02:30.000 --> 02:40.000
So there's one philosophy in when you're assembling details, how do you insert them or x-ref them in?

02:40.000 --> 02:48.000
Typically we build detail sheets from this corner down, and then over to the left.

02:48.000 --> 02:54.000
So typically you don't really have anything over here to grab onto.

02:54.000 --> 03:02.000
So people will frequently have the base point of their detail borders being the top right corner.

03:02.000 --> 03:09.000
Because when I first start populating it, I'll say pop it in at the end of that corner right there.

03:09.000 --> 03:14.000
So what we're going to do is we're going to move the geometry in the one horizontal, one vertical.

03:14.000 --> 03:20.000
The base point will still be 00, but 00 will be this top right corner.

03:20.000 --> 03:30.000
So I'm just going to say move crossing from the end of here to 00, zoom extents, zoom real time, and save the file.

03:30.000 --> 03:37.000
Now, from a layer standpoint, the layers that we already have in the drawing are zero and no plot.

03:37.000 --> 03:44.000
What I want to do is I want to bring in the detailed or title block layer color into the drawing.

03:44.000 --> 03:51.000
Go to the View tab under palettes, click on the design center or type DC at the command prompt.

03:51.000 --> 03:56.000
Go to the C drive, and go to the CAD detailing folder.

03:57.000 --> 04:00.000
And you can see all of the drawings that I have in here.

04:00.000 --> 04:03.000
If I'd like to, I can stretch this out a little bit farther.

04:03.000 --> 04:10.000
Now, again, if your design center does not look like mine, you can always choose the visibility modes.

04:10.000 --> 04:12.000
Right here, I keep mine on details.

04:12.000 --> 04:14.000
You can see that there are the icons.

04:14.000 --> 04:17.000
I don't care to work that way. I keep mine on details.

04:17.000 --> 04:21.000
So I'm going to slide down and choose my title block.

04:22.000 --> 04:24.000
TTLB 30x42.

04:24.000 --> 04:27.000
I will expand it. I'll go to Layers.

04:27.000 --> 04:31.000
I'll take the title block layer and drag it into the drawing.

04:31.000 --> 04:35.000
And I'm going to go on and close the design center.

04:35.000 --> 04:38.000
So I've brought the layer into here.

04:38.000 --> 04:45.000
So then one of the questions starts to be, how do you deal with your borders?

04:45.000 --> 04:52.000
And so what a lot of people do is rather than having the detailed borders in the details themselves,

04:52.000 --> 04:59.000
they end up having the border tick marks in the 30x42 or 22x34 sheet.

04:59.000 --> 05:04.000
So what would normally happen is, for example, I would draw a line.

05:04.000 --> 05:06.000
Well, first I would check my layers.

05:06.000 --> 05:09.000
I would make sure that I'm on the title block layer.

05:09.000 --> 05:12.000
And again, remember, we drew all of these on the no plot layer.

05:12.000 --> 05:18.000
If you happened to have drawn yours, for example, on the zero layer,

05:18.000 --> 05:23.000
and you know how to do this, you can always select the geometry with a crossing

05:23.000 --> 05:26.000
and migrate it to the no plot layer.

05:26.000 --> 05:32.000
I'm going to hit Escape, go to Title Block,

05:32.000 --> 05:36.000
and now I'm going to go and make Title Block my current layer.

05:36.000 --> 05:41.000
I'll draw a line from here down an eighth of an inch.

05:41.000 --> 05:45.000
Copy last.

05:45.000 --> 05:49.000
Copy this from the end.

05:49.000 --> 05:54.000
Mirror window.

05:54.000 --> 05:57.000
From the mid of the vertical, straight over.

05:57.000 --> 06:02.000
Draw a line from the end of here over an eighth of an inch.

06:02.000 --> 06:05.000
Copy last.

06:05.000 --> 06:07.000
Down.

06:07.000 --> 06:10.000
Mirror window.

06:10.000 --> 06:13.000
From the mid.

06:13.000 --> 06:17.000
And you can see that what it wants to do is it wants to grab the midpoint

06:17.000 --> 06:20.000
of my actual detail border.

06:20.000 --> 06:24.000
So I'm going to make sure I have selection cycling turned on.

06:24.000 --> 06:28.000
So mirror window.

06:28.000 --> 06:32.000
From the mid and selection cycling should kick in.

06:32.000 --> 06:34.000
It's apparently not.

06:34.000 --> 06:39.000
So what I'm going to do instead, I'm going to draw a line nearest to here,

06:39.000 --> 06:43.000
perpendicular to right there.

06:43.000 --> 06:50.000
Then I'm going to say mirror window from the mid of that angle line.

06:50.000 --> 06:53.000
Straight down, erase out the line.

06:53.000 --> 07:00.000
I'm going to erase out the detail border so you can now see that I have little tick marks

07:00.000 --> 07:04.000
that I can use when I stop populating my details in the sheet.

07:04.000 --> 07:09.000
I'm going to save this file.

07:09.000 --> 07:11.000
Go back to the 22 by 34.

07:11.000 --> 07:14.000
Draw a line from the end down.

07:14.000 --> 07:16.000
Oops, change my layer.

07:16.000 --> 07:18.000
Go to Title Block.

07:18.000 --> 07:22.000
Draw a line down an eighth of an inch.

07:22.000 --> 07:29.000
Copy last mirror window.

07:29.000 --> 07:33.000
From the mid, I'm going to choose this line over here because it's the same thing.

07:33.000 --> 07:36.000
Or those on straight over.

07:36.000 --> 07:41.000
A line from the end of here over a quarter of an inch.

07:41.000 --> 07:48.000
Copy last.

07:48.000 --> 08:00.000
A line nearest to here, perpendicular to here, mirror window from the mid of here.

08:00.000 --> 08:05.000
Straight down, erase this, erase this.

08:05.000 --> 08:07.000
I'm just going to confirm some dimensions.

08:07.000 --> 08:10.000
I'm going to say what's the distance from the end to the end.

08:10.000 --> 08:12.000
An eighth of an inch.

08:12.000 --> 08:15.000
What's the distance here?

08:15.000 --> 08:16.000
An eighth of an inch.

08:16.000 --> 08:20.000
I might have set a quarter of an inch, but I actually typed in an eighth of an inch.

08:20.000 --> 08:26.000
Again, I have my tick marks so that when I go to insert the detail border,

08:26.000 --> 08:31.000
I'll be popping it in to that point up there.

08:31.000 --> 08:34.000
I'm going to go back to my one by one vertical.

08:34.000 --> 08:38.000
Now we've begun the actual formatting for the detail border.

08:38.000 --> 08:41.000
I'm going to save this.

08:41.000 --> 08:43.000
I'm going to go into my 30 by 42.

08:43.000 --> 08:46.000
Just for fun.

08:46.000 --> 08:49.000
I'm going to make my current layer zero.

08:49.000 --> 08:51.000
Xref.

08:51.000 --> 08:55.000
I'm going to attach.

08:55.000 --> 08:57.000
Attach a drawing.

08:57.000 --> 09:00.000
I'm going to go into my C drive.

09:00.000 --> 09:02.000
Choose my detail border.

09:02.000 --> 09:03.000
Go open.

09:03.000 --> 09:05.000
Specify insertion point on screen.

09:05.000 --> 09:07.000
As an attachment, go OK.

09:07.000 --> 09:10.000
I'm just going to pop it in right here for right now.

09:10.000 --> 09:15.000
Because one thing that's happening is my Xref view mode is not set to auto hide,

09:15.000 --> 09:18.000
so I'm going to turn that to be back to auto hide.

09:18.000 --> 09:21.000
Now when I click on the screen, it will collapse.

09:21.000 --> 09:27.000
Now I can move the detail from the end of here up to the end here,

09:27.000 --> 09:32.000
and you can see that it's right on top of that little tick mark.

09:32.000 --> 09:36.000
Go into XR.

09:36.000 --> 09:37.000
Pick on it.

09:37.000 --> 09:38.000
Right button.

09:38.000 --> 09:41.000
Detach.

09:41.000 --> 09:43.000
Come into here.

09:43.000 --> 09:45.000
Control S to save.

09:45.000 --> 09:47.000
And zoom extends.

09:47.000 --> 09:51.000
So now I have my title block done with my tick marks.

09:51.000 --> 09:53.000
I'm saving the file.

09:53.000 --> 09:58.000
22 by 34 with the tick marks saving the file.

09:58.000 --> 10:00.000
My one horizontal one vertical.

10:00.000 --> 10:01.000
Save the file.

10:01.000 --> 10:06.000
And when we come back, we're going to start working on actually building out

10:06.000 --> 10:09.000
a one by one horizontal vertical.

10:09.000 --> 10:11.000
See you in a few minutes.
