Building a Murphy Table: A Comprehensive Guide
Murphy tables, also known as wall-mounted or fold-down tables, are a space-saving solution that's perfect for small apartments, offices, or homes with limited space. Designing Your Murphy Table
Before you start building, decide on the size of your table. A standard size is 42" wide x 24" deep, but you can adjust these measurements to fit your space. Also, consider the height you want the table to be when folded up. This will determine the height of the legs.
Cutting the Pieces
Using a circular saw or handsaw, cut the following pieces from your plywood and lumber:

Assembling the Table
Begin by assembling the table frame. Attach the table aprons to the table top using pocket hole screws and wood glue. Then, attach the legs to the table aprons using pocket hole screws and wood glue. Add the support braces to the inside of the legs for extra support.
Next, attach the back brace to the inside of the legs using pocket hole screws and wood glue. This will provide additional support and prevent the table from wobbling when it's folded down.
Attaching the Hinges and Latch Mechanism
Mark the hinge locations on the back brace and the wall where you want the table to fold down. Attach the hinges to the back brace using screws, then attach the other half of the hinges to the wall using wall anchor screws. Make sure the hinges are level and aligned.
Install the latch mechanism according to the manufacturer's instructions. This will keep the table in the folded-down position when in use.
Finishing Touches
Sand any rough edges or surfaces, then paint or stain the table to match your decor. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before using the table.
Installing the Table
Using a stud finder, locate the studs in your wall. Mark their locations and attach the cleats to the wall using screws. These cleats will support the table when it's folded up.
Gently fold the table up against the wall. It should rest on the cleats and be secure when folded up. When you want to use the table, simply fold it down and engage the latch mechanism.
