Kitchen Design Trends to Watch in 2023
As we step into 2023, the kitchen remains the heart of the home, evolving to meet our changing lifestyles. From sustainable materials to smart technology, here are the top kitchen design trends that will dominate the new year.
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Materials
The growing consciousness towards the environment is reflected in the choice of materials for kitchen designs in 2023. Expect to see more cabinets and countertops made from sustainable materials like bamboo, recycled glass, and eco-friendly composites.
- Bamboo Cabinets: Durable, renewable, and stylish, bamboo is an excellent sustainable alternative to traditional wood.
- Recycled Glass Countertops: Available in a variety of colors and patterns, these countertops are not only eco-friendly but also add a unique touch to your kitchen.
- Eco-Friendly Composites: Made from a mix of recycled materials and natural binders, these composites are durable, non-toxic, and low-maintenance.
Smart Kitchen Technology
Smart home technology is no longer a futuristic concept. In 2023, kitchens will be more connected and automated than ever.

- Voice-Activated Assistants: From turning on the lights to ordering groceries, voice-activated assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home will be even more integrated into kitchen designs.
- Smart Appliances: Expect to see more smart refrigerators, ovens, and dishwashers that can be controlled via smartphone apps or voice commands.
- Automated Cabinetry: Cabinetry with built-in charging stations, USB ports, and even wireless charging capabilities will be in high demand.
Multifunctional Spaces
With remote work and hybrid learning here to stay, the kitchen is no longer just a place for cooking and eating. In 2023, we'll see more kitchen designs that incorporate multifunctional spaces.
This could mean a dedicated workspace with built-in charging stations and storage for laptops and paperwork, or a cozy nook for reading or watching TV. Whatever the case, these spaces will be designed to seamlessly integrate into the overall kitchen layout.
Bold Colors and Patterns
After years of neutrals dominating kitchen design, 2023 is set to bring back bold colors and patterns. Expect to see cabinets in deep blues, greens, and even black, as well as patterned tiles and wallpaper.
However, this doesn't mean the end of neutrals. They will still play a significant role in kitchen design, but they'll be used in more creative ways. For example, consider a neutral base with pops of color in the cabinets or accessories.
Open Shelving and Display Cabinets
In 2023, kitchens will be more open and airy, with less emphasis on closed-off cabinetry. Open shelving and display cabinets will be popular choices, allowing homeowners to showcase their favorite dishes, cookbooks, and decorative items.
This trend not only adds a personal touch to your kitchen but also makes it feel more spacious and inviting. However, it does require a commitment to keeping your shelves tidy and well-styled!
