Average Shower Curtain Height: A Comprehensive Guide
When it comes to choosing a shower curtain, one of the first questions that often arises is, "What is the average shower curtain height?" The answer to this query is not as straightforward as one might think, as it can vary depending on the type of shower or bath you have. However, we've compiled this comprehensive guide to help you understand the average shower curtain height and other related aspects.
Standard Shower Curtain Height
The average shower curtain height for a standard bathtub or shower stall is typically 72 inches (6 feet). This height is considered standard because it provides adequate coverage for most people while showering. It also allows for easy installation, as it can be hung from a standard shower curtain rod, which is usually 72 inches long.
Tips for Measuring Your Shower Curtain Height
- Measure from the top of the shower wall or bathtub to the floor. This will give you the height you need for your shower curtain.
- Consider the height of your shower curtain rod. If your rod is adjustable, you can extend it to accommodate a taller shower curtain if needed.
- Account for any overhang. Some people prefer their shower curtain to overhang the bathtub or shower stall for added privacy. If this is the case, you'll need to add a few inches to your measurement.
Special Considerations for Non-Standard Showers
While the average shower curtain height for standard showers is 72 inches, this may not be the case for all showers. If you have a non-standard shower, such as a walk-in shower or a shower with a high or low ceiling, you'll need to measure the height specifically for your space.
Walk-In Showers
Walk-in showers typically have a standard shower curtain height, but they may also have a taller ceiling. In this case, you'll need to measure the height of the shower enclosure itself, rather than the entire ceiling. You can then choose a shower curtain that is long enough to cover the enclosure and extend a few inches above it for privacy.
High or Low Ceilings
If your shower has a high or low ceiling, you may need to purchase a custom shower curtain or a shower curtain that can be extended to fit your space. Some shower curtains come with adjustable lengths, while others can be hemmed to the desired length by a professional seamstress.
Choosing the Right Shower Curtain Length
Once you've measured the height of your shower, it's time to choose the right shower curtain length. In addition to the average shower curtain height, you'll also need to consider the width of your shower curtain and the length of your shower curtain rod.
Width
The width of your shower curtain should be at least as wide as your shower or bathtub, plus a few inches on each side for overlap. This will ensure that the shower curtain provides adequate coverage and privacy.
Length
The length of your shower curtain should be at least as long as the height of your shower, plus a few inches to account for any overhang. If you have a non-standard shower, you may need to purchase a custom shower curtain or a shower curtain that can be extended to fit your space.
Table: Average Shower Curtain Sizes
| Shower Type | Average Shower Curtain Height | Average Shower Curtain Width |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Bathtub or Shower Stall | 72 inches | 72 inches |
| Walk-In Shower | 72 inches (or custom) | 72 inches (or custom) |
| High or Low Ceiling Shower | Custom | Custom |
In conclusion, the average shower curtain height is 72 inches for standard showers, but this can vary depending on the type of shower you have. By measuring the height of your shower and choosing a shower curtain that fits your space, you can ensure that your shower is both functional and stylish.
