325e head swap 11-18-2011, 01:22 PM I have decided to swap out my head to an 885 from a 325i I have read a bunch of threads and posts, but none of them have a full detailed list of parts i need to do the swap. I know so far, I need: - 325i head - 325i intake manifold - 325i ECU - 325i AFM - 325i injecters - do i need a 325i or 325e head gasket? Well the s52 swap is the hardest of the BMW engines to swap into the e30, and frankly I think it defeats the purpose of owning an E30, I mean its far better than say a Ford 5.0 swap! However I bought an E30 for the experience of owning and driving it, that drastic of a change I think would take from that.

I've had a head sitting in my basement for a decade that supposedly is "built with a Schrick cam" that is for the i motor. I know it's been done, and I wondering what's entailed in putting this on my 325e that I'm restoring the engine on. Just completed a similar swap on my 86 325e.731 head, b23 intake, b25 throttle body, conforti eta chip (5300 rpm redline).

Car runs great and pulls much harder above 3000 rpm. Didnt notice a significant loss in bottom end, great upgrade all around. The car is much faster now.

Next step is motronic 1.3 swap or mark d 2.7i chip like you said. The Eta head will clash with the piston shape of the 325i pistons and the engine wouldn't even turn over. The casting numbers (885 for 325i, 731 for 320i/323i and 200 for eta and e21's) are on the inlet side of the head in large font.

Not very powerful, diesel-like redline, and low compression ratio so they are generally considered less desireable than the later (post '87) 325i engines. I beleive the head from the "I" engine can be swapped onto the eta bottom end, which I think is a desireable combo for boost.

No real firsthand experience on my part, aside from having.
