Heinz Black Kitchen Initiative

The Heinz Black Kitchen Initiative is back for Year 4 of empowering, supporting and pouring into Black restaurants. Our program continues in partnership with The Lee Initiative and SRRJ Coalition to provide more than $1MM in grants and other business resources to Black food businesses in communities nationwide. The Heinz Black Kitchen Initiative began in 2020, with the mission to celebrate and preserve the legacy of Black food.

The Black Kitchen Initiative seeks to break down the barriers that keep Black voices and cooking out of the American culinary pantheon with programs that approach the issues of the industry from a variety of creative angles. Back in April, Heinz, the LEE Initiative and Southern Restaurants for Racial Justice partnered to give grants to 70+ Black-owned restaurants and food initiatives across the nation. We put a face to a few of those names with the Black Kitchen Podcast, a new audio series about modern Black cuisine.

HEINZ partners with Marcus Samuelsson and past and current grantees to host restaurant takeovers for up-and-coming Black chefs. The Open Kitchen series is part of the HEINZ Black Kitchen Initiative, a program to celebrate and preserve Black food culture and break down barriers for Black food entrepreneurs. Heinz has committed an additional $1M in grants to the Black Kitchen Initiative to help Black food businesses have lasting success.
