M635csi Engine swap by whiskeydry Thu Aug 21, 2014 2:21 pm The Background I have owned my RHD M635 for the past 21 years and, although rarely used in the last 10-15 years (only to shows normally), it is fast approaching the 100K miles mark so it is time to refresh the timing chain tensioners, something I want to tackle myself.
The M54B30 engine with Schrick cams, port work and custom headers goes into the BMW E24 635csi. After the initial run-in process and base tuning was set up.
Mechanically your 635 is a an BMW e28 535 (model year 1985 - 1988), with the engine/transmission from an e34 535 (89 - 91). The Bentley manuals for those series are a good hard copy resource. Online info is available from bigcoupe.com and my28.com. Both user/owner groups full of ideas, solutions to various common and not so common issues.
