22R-E, 22R-TE 5°BTDC @ idle. If necessary, loosen the distributor bolt and turn the distributor to align the marks. Recheck the timing after tighting the distributor bolt. (22R-E, 22R-TE) Remove the jumper on the check connector. Check that ignition timing advances to 10°- 14°BTDC. Great infomation about that on here Was this answer helpful?

I have a 1984 longbed, 22R engine, 5 speed, carb, vac advance with 2 hoses. I have the timing set so when engine is warm, both hoses on, the timing is at 12 btdc. Hoses off, at 0 btdc. When the engine cools down a little, the timing will go to 0 btdc with the hoses on if I snap the throttle.

I recently changed spark plugs, checked idle, timing advance and helped save the Earth by keeping the MoreFunner out of the landfill and eliminatin.

Anyway, the timing had been set at 0 degrees BTDC which is standard for a carbed 22R. But I've found it seems to run better (and pull better vacuum) if I advance it to the 5 degrees BTDC that would be standard for EFI 22Rs, and better yet if I push it to 8 or even 12 degrees? What should I set it at?

An Adjustable Timing Tag is required when converting to a 4" Crankshaft Pulley which takes the place of the original timing tag that is located on the oil pump. To adjust the Timing Tag correctly, find indicated top dead center on the #1 piston, set the pointer to the 0 (zero) mark on the pulley and tighten it down.
