The good news is that you do not need to abandon wood filler entirely; you simply need to reinforce it.
Why Standard Filler Fails Under Pressure
To solve the problem, you must understand it. Off-the-shelf wood filler is often a mixture of sawdust and a water-based or solvent-based binder. This composition is inherently brittle once dry. It lacks the flexibility and cohesion required to handle stress, and it shrinks significantly as the water or solvent evaporates. This shrinkage creates micro-fissures that propagate over time. When you reinforce the mixture, you are compensating for these weaknesses by adding materials that improve adhesion, reduce brittleness, and increase density.
Method 1: The Epoxy Bonding Agent

Method 2: The CA Glue Accelerator
If you need a faster solution, cyanoacrylate (CA) glue, commonly known as super glue, offers an immediate reinforcement strategy.
