Germany leads in public restroom standards, combining modern design with universal accessibility. Most municipal facilities feature clean stalls, hand dryers or warm air blowers, clear signage, and gender-neutral options in larger hubs. Public restrooms are strategically located in train stations, tourist centers, shopping malls, and parks, ensuring ease of access throughout urban and suburban areas.

Fast-food places usually have a decent and fairly accessible "public" restroom. Timid people buy a drink they don't want in order to use the bathroom, but that's generally unnecessary (although sometimes the secret bathroom door code is printed only on your receipt). Even at American chains, be prepared for bathroom culture shock.

The floors are clean, the stalls are stocked with toilet paper, and the soap dispensers actually work.
