Over time, the number of chapters has grown, and is said to number a thousand.

Every chapter has their own specific color scheme and design aesthetic and their own internal culture. So I've recently come into possession of a second hand space marine army and am wondering if they are a pure homebrew scheme, or a canon chapter. Their power armor is almost entirely black with green shoulder pauldrons and knee pads.They also use white helmets to signify veterans and red helmets to signify sergeants.

All of the characters are either bare headed, or have red helmets as well. The Black Consuls is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter that was a Second Founding Successor or "Primogenitor" Chapter of the Ultramarines.
