Campaigners for the Old Assembly Rooms say they hope the future is brighter for the Trinity Street site, one of Weymouth's oldest buildings. News of future uses was hinted at during a meeting. This picture was taken by my Great-Uncle, the Reverend E V Tanner who was a Master at Weymouth College.

The view is looking along Trinity Street in Weymouth with the Old Rooms Inn on the left, the building was originally a private dwelling that backed onto the harbour, then in the 18th century it was used as the Assembly Rooms until 1785 when new ones were built and the word 'old' was added. A historic building in Weymouth at the centre of a campaign to try and get it protected could be turned into a home or even a museum, it is understood. Campaigners for the Old Assembly Rooms say.

These rooms became redundant when new Assembly Rooms were built in the 1770s on the Esplanade in a more fashionable part of the town. By the early 1780s the old Rooms thus became the Old Rooms Inn. Figure 19: The Old Rooms, Weymouth's first As-sembly Rooms These developments began to place a pre-mium on flat land, so that during this period the Cove was filled in, the buildings in Hope Street that once faced onto the Cove now faced onto the narrow alley of Cove Passage.

Heritage campaigners are worried about the state of the Old Assembly Rooms in Trinity Street near Weymouth harbour, and have been trying to.
