The BMW iX5 will be the first of six new electrified SUVs from BMW, launching in 2026. It will be based on a reworked CLAR platform and feature a new design with X-shaped headlights.
A hydrogen-powered iX5 will follow in 2028, along with other fuel cell variants. Amidst an all-electric race, BMW will offer its new X5 SUV with a pure hydrogen powertrain, known as the BMW iX5 Hydrogen. The X5 will be offered with no fewer than five different fuel options.
The BMW iX5 Hydrogen combines emission-free performance with maximum everyday versatility. Its tank is topped up in just 3-4 minutes and it achieves a range of up to 504 km, regardless of outside temperatures. With 295 kW, you'll experience dynamic driving pleasure, while the short refuelling time keeps you flexible on longer journeys as well.
BMW's SUV lineup goes fully electric by 2026, with hydrogen iX5 arriving in 2028, followed by more fuel. BMW Chief Technology Officer Joachim Post is confident the iX5 Hydrogen will be a relevant model despite the slow uptake of hydrogen vehicles. BMW wants to gather practical experience with the fuel cell with 100 converted iX5 Hydrogen to launch an H2 series model towards the end of the decade.
