Toyota 22r Ignition Timing

Hey colezombie, Where ever you end up with the ignition timing, you might consider test driving your vehicle and making sure it's not pinging. I don't think that engine has a knock sensor.
On my 22R I always fine tuned my ignition timing by ear. My 22R was way more sensitive to ignition timing change than my 22RE's. What octane are you burning?

22R-E, 22R-TE 5°BTDC @ idle. If necessary, loosen the distributor bolt and turn the distributor to align the marks. Recheck the timing after tighting the distributor bolt.

22R. I wander about my time chain too. It is too bad the 86 Toyota does not have the adjustible timing chain sprocket as does the B200 (1957cc) Datsun motor have in 1980, years ago we adjusted the stretched timing chain with this sprocket adjustment, the sprocket can actually be adjusted twice as there are two marks on sprocket.
