How to Grow Lambs Ear Plant: Expert Care Tips for Lush, Soft Foliage
With its velvety, silver-green leaves and low-growing habit, lambs ear plant is a beloved choice for gardens and containers alike—here’s how to cultivate this resilient perennial successfully.
How to Grow Lambs Ear Plant: Essential Growing Conditions
Lambs ear thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-draining, slightly alkaline soil. Plant in spring after frost, spacing seeds or cuttings 12 to 18 inches apart. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during establishment, then reduce watering as the plant matures for optimal growth.
Watering and Soil Requirements
This drought-tolerant perennial prefers moderate moisture but fails in damp, poorly drained conditions. Amend heavy clay with sand or compost to improve drainage, and mulch lightly to maintain soil moisture and suppress weeds without trapping excess water around roots.
Pruning and Maintenance for Lush Growth
Regular pinching of flower stems encourages bushier foliage and prevents seed spread. Trim back leggy growth in early summer to maintain shape and promote new leaves. Remove spent blooms to keep the plant looking tidy and extend the growing season’s appeal.
With proper light, well-drained soil, and minimal care, lambs ear plant delivers year-round texture and resilience. Start your planting journey today and enjoy this low-maintenance beauty that elevates any landscape with its soft, silvery charm.
