0 I bought a new light/ fan combo to replace and old one in a bathroom. This new fixture has those connectors that are plug and play, so to speak. You simply plug the appropriate color wire from the cable into the corresponding hole in the wiring harness for the fixture.

So attempted to fit a new bathroom light and completely stuck,the new light only requires a live and neutral wire and there was only 2 wires Connected to the old light however no indication for it,so I have a blue wire,a red wire coated in brown and a black wire coated in brown,which is N and. The original wiring has switch-leg pair (hot-switch & neutral) in as well as similar out, so there should be a second light operating off the same switch. If there is no other light, you should identify which wire pair is live and which wire pair is dead.

I have sourced where there is an earth wire in the loft (pic) and tested to make sure it's actually earthed.

At some point this week I need to tackle installing an extractor fan in our bathroom as it currently doesn't have one. The directions state it needs a live, neutral and a switched live feed as it has a timer, from the lighting ring. When installing a new light fitting with only one live and one neutral connection in a ceiling with a **ring wiring system** (loop-in method), it can be a little confusing to handle the additional wires.

If your light fixture has only two cores (live and neutral), connect the live wire to the switch live terminal and the neutral wire to the neutral terminal. The light had just 'live' and 'neutral', and no earth cable or 'double insulated' symbol. In the picture above I've added a earth cable fixed to the casing, which I'll in turn connect to the earth cable in the plug.
