League implementing Electronic Game Sheet System

Information follows from the league about the new game sheet system.  As a result of this change, we will be asking players to keep their ID cards rather than storing  the cards in the team bag.

Introductory letter:

Members of the SDSA,

On behalf of the SDSA I am pleased to announce the launch of our Electronic Game Sheet System for the upcoming indoor season. As it is the goal of the SDSA to provide our membership with consistency and excellence in service, the EGS system is the next step in helping us to achieve and maintain the highest standard possible. The EGS system will eliminate all paper game sheets for the 06/07 indoor season.

Why change the old system?

With the development of new leagues and imminent growth upon us, the SDSA Board and Staff identified problems in the following areas:

The EGS System will solve these problems by:

Below you will find a question and answer sheet that will answer any questions you may have in regards to the new system. If you should find one of your questions isn’t addressed below, please feel free to contact Jason Evans at the SDSA office with your questions. We will also be explaining the EGS system and the new EGS Policies extensively at our pre-season meeting on Monday Oct 16th at 7:00pm in the SKHRSC on Primrose Drive.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience throughout the launch of this new system, and I would like to wish everyone an exciting and enjoyable indoor season.

Yours in soccer,

Anita Korolis
President SDSA

Questions and answers:

Q. What is the EGS System?

A. The EGS System is an electronic handheld device (PDA) with customized software that will replace all paper game sheets. Game attendance will be recorded by swiping each player’s ID Card, adding him or her to the game sheet. After each game is complete, goals scored, yellow cards and red cards will be entered. Once the referee finalizes the game, it will be submitted electronically to our database.

Q. When will the results show up on the website?

A. Immediately. As soon as the game is over, the referee will enter all the game information and submit the results electronically, updating our standings and results shown on our website almost instantly.

Q. What if my card doesn’t work when the referee swipes it?

A. If you swipe your card and it won't read, the referee will enter your name manually for that game only. The referee will keep your card for submission to the SDSA office. It is your responsibility to come into the office and get a new card prior to your next game. Cards that don't read properly during the first two months of regular season play will be replaced at no charge. Cards that don't read properly during the remainder of the season will be replaced at a charge of $15. It is the player’s responsibility to care for the ID Card properly.

Q. If I attempt to play while suspended, what will happen?

A. The system will reject your name and not allow you to be placed on the game sheet. This will eliminate the office staff from having to manually catch ineligible or suspended players from playing. Once your suspension is lifted or served, you will be able to resume playing.

Q. How will permits work with the new system?

A. Permitting rules have been entered in the new system. If the rules allow you to permit to certain divisions, swiping your card will simply add you to the game sheet as a permit player. If you are trying to permit to a division in which you are not allowed to permit, swiping your card will result in a rejection error and a message of "Not eligible to permit" will appear. Your name will not appear on the game sheet and you will not be allowed to play. As permitting rules have changed, the new rules and regulations will be released and explained at the pre season meting. Please read the updated rules and regulations through carefully and direct any questions you may have to the office staff.

Q. What if I lose my ID Card?

A. Exemption letters can be issued for registered players by phoning the office. The player's ID Number will be clearly marked on the exemption letter for the referee's to enter the player manually. The office staff will only issue you one exemption letter. It is up to each player to replace their ID Cards at their own expense.
