Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to tell you of a personal challenge I have undertaken. It is a challenge of physical endurance and a challenge to make a difference in our community. It is a very personal challenge to me as well. Nearly three years ago, I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis (similar to Rheumatoid Arthritis). It has changed my life in many ways.

The facts about arthritis are alarming. Nearly 4 million Canadians suffer with this disease- that is 1 in every 7 people. New projections predict arthritis to be the epidemic of the future. By the year 2020, the number of people with arthritis will almost double, affecting major life activities such as working, going to school and enjoying leisure activities. Arthritis is the number one cause of disability in Canada, costing our nation’s economy 5 billion annually in medical care and lost wages. The toll on my family is more than financial, it is personal.

Recently, I joined the Arthritis Society “Joints in Motion” team, which means I am committed to raising $6200.00 for The Arthritis Society by running my first half marathon in Trieste, Italy on May 3, 2009. This will be no ordinary trip. I will be running in honour of my grandmother who suffers from Osteoarthritis and faces much pain and numerous challenges everyday. Personally, this program has been empowering for me and a way for me to take back some control that this disease has over my entire life. The work we are doing here really does make a difference! The Arthritis Society devotes more than 1 million dollars annually to research and is leading the way to more successful control and treatments. The work they do is invaluable- I know this first hand. My quality of life has been greatly improved due to the efforts of the Arthritis Society.

Training for and running this marathon will be one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life. This is a very important cause to me, and I invite you to take part in this team effort as well. Please donate and let’s make this world a better place to live for those who suffer with this devastating illness. Each pledge will support research to help find the causes, cure and prevention of Arthritis. Any donations ten dollars and over are tax deductible and will be greatly appreciated. Please make your cheque out to The Arthritis Society (email me if you require my mailing address) or you can donate online at my webpage. http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=494545

Please feel free to pass this request for sponsorship along to any of your friends or family you think would be interested. I can use all the help I can get!

If you have any questions or just want to get in touch and find out how the training is going, give me a call (306)651-3539 or email me at webejaman@shaw.ca .

All donations are graciously accepted, no matter the amount. Every little bit counts!

Thank you for your generous support!!!

Tobey Jaman
