| Kosher salt | 1 tbsp |
| White vinegar | 1 cup |
| Granulated sugar | 1/2 cup |
| Yellow mustard seeds | 1 tsp |
| Turmeric | 1/2 tsp |
| Celery seeds | 1/2 tsp |
| Black peppercorns | 1/2 tsp |
Equipment

- Saucepan
- Mason jar or other airtight container
- Cutting board
- Knife
Instructions
Start by preparing your cucumbers and onion. Thinly slice both and place them in a large bowl. Sprinkle with kosher salt, toss to combine, and let them sit for about 2 hours. This process draws out the moisture from the vegetables, creating a brine.
After 2 hours, rinse the cucumbers and onions under cold water to remove excess salt. Drain well and set aside.

In a saucepan, combine white vinegar, granulated sugar, yellow mustard seeds, turmeric, celery seeds, and black peppercorns. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes. Then, add the cucumbers and onions to the saucepan, stirring to coat them evenly with the vinegar mixture.
Transfer the pickles to a clean, airtight container, such as a mason jar. Allow them to cool to room temperature, then seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before enjoying. The pickles will keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

This small batch bread and butter pickle recipe is not only delicious but also a great way to use up excess cucumbers from your garden or farmers market haul. The hands-on time is minimal, making it an excellent project for both beginner and experienced preservers alike.
