By filtering out certain luminance frequencies, and softening the picture, you can reduce cross colour. Given that the PS3 runs at high resolutions internally, downconverted HD to SD pictures may well have a lot of HF in them that would cause cross colour, so the filter reduces this.

Iam getting Cross Color effect on the PS3 even using the filter. It only occurs on the component cable on higher res than 480i. Anyone now what could be causing this?
